It is admirable that he wishes to turn his personal tragedy into a lesson for the general Public. But i must admit that i was floored by the lesson that is being Learned. I am referring to a quote by a 12-year-old a a. People have to take it More seriously a have Safe is that the Only lesson to be Learned from this and by a Mere child magic admits he contracted the virus during unprotected heterosexual relations. 1 guess he figures telling people to use a condom will prevent the further spread of aids. But i have not once heard mentioned the Only sure fire Way to prevent transmission a abstinence. Even in schools from what i have been told that idea is not presented. The most common reason i have heard for this is that abstinence is considered a a moral and therefore be taught in school but rather left As a religious lesson. In the Light of aids and All the other sexually transmitted diseases in this Day and age abstinence should be taught to everyone regardless of any religious or moral connotations. It is simply another option another Choice just As having sex with or without a condom is a Choice. If the aids epidemic is to be stopped people have to Wake up and face reality. Condoms help but Are not a 100 percent guarantee. Abstinence is. A Bridget m. Sanders Raf Mildenhall England shooting Back in Texas i just have to exercise my first amendment rights and respond to the Lakenheath resident who wondered Why nobody shot Back when psychopath George Hennard began randomly shooting people in a cafeteria in Texas. Perhaps people would like to go out onto the streets without having to wonder before they do whether or not a nut is going to gun them Down and choose an appropriate firearm. Maybe some americans would like to live relatively comfortable Carefree lives without having to incorporate defensive tactics and concerns about Superior firepower into their Day to Day plans. One of the reasons people die in situations like this one is that sociopaths Are exercising their second amendment rights All Over the place. Will we come to a Point at which everybody will have to go armed in Public maybe your Lakenheath writer feels comfortable with that idea but the Prospect of having to do so and of having people ask ask Over my Corpse if i decide not to makes me very uncomfortable. A David Okunski a Barb Okonski Berlin in behalf of Peta in response to the Many letters published recently on Hunting i d like to write on behalf of Peta people for the ethical treatment of animals. There Are Many different aspects in the treatment of animals that Peta represents. Although the pointless killing of animals is a Large concern of the organization learning to develop a respect for All animals big and Small is the major goal of Peta. The ignorance of those who ridicule the involvement that Peta produces amazes me. Peta has been a tremendous Force behind major corporation decisions to abandon the practice of using animals in unnecessary research. Its going to be a sad Day in our worlds history when animals that roam freely and soar proudly Are gone. I Hope then when it is too late that these so called a a sports Hunters remember the warning that these a a Nincompoop organizations gave to them years before. Go ahead and justify the slaughtering of animals and blame environmental disasters on us. As important As it is to reverse the effects of environmental pollutants it is As important to reverse the attitudes of those who believe that Hunting is of. A airman 1st class Michael Kaslow Span Dahlem a German thanks for inc mail my husband and i wrote the stars and stripes a letter last March. In answer to that letter we received a lot of real Nice mail. We heard from people who went through Boot Camp with our son and others who were stationed with him. We even got a letter from a Guy who had been our paperboy awhile Back. It was wonderful to hear from All of you. If any of you still want someone to write to we would love to hear from you. We did answer All the letters last time but we Are getting letters and packages Back. We Are even getting Back packages we sent Over Iasi Christmas. Wherever you Are we Hope that All of you have Happy holidays. Thanks again for everything. By the Way Guys we still have some of your yellow ribbons. If you still want them drop a line a Henry a Mel Quot and Nancy Otte 1372 California St. Oxnard Calif. 930331715 a Ivi attacked by "bully9 my husband and i have no children and consider our Beautiful 6-month-old Kitty our our Kitty loves to play outside. Every Day we allow him outside for a Little while. We live on the first floor and can easily supervise him through our window. While our eyes were turned away our neighbors eyes were not. This is what they witnessed As our Kitty was cheerfully playing a teen age bully on his walk Home from school decided to have some fun. He picked up two rocks aimed them at letters to the editor Kitty with full Force. Kitty was found lying in the rain with a bloody Eye which we were afraid he would lose. Fortunately his sight was spared but he is still quite uncomfortable and not his Jolly self. We Are appalled at i to concepts of this act. First of All we attempted to report this violation to our my station Only to be told that there was nothing they could do since the witness was a third party and the suspect denied his actions. The my stated that the situation was Between us and the suspect. Is it fair that because an animal cannot speak that a witness besides its owner is not sufficient for the owner to file charges if our animal had attacked the suspect without witnesses would the suspect s testimony have been adequate to file charges against us or our animal when the my stated that the situation was Between us and the suspect was the my giving us jurisdiction to Deal with him As we wish and if we chose to punish the suspect ourselves would witnesses not protect him second of All the suspect is a teenager who neighbouring kids consider a True bully. What or whom will he harm next the Mother believed the bully was innocent while we were left with an upset Kitty and an unappreciated vet Bill. It is teen agers like this who grow and develop into bigger bullies and sometimes criminals. A Annette Fitzgerald Baum older Germany quandary in Kuwait i am stationed at Camp Doha in Kuwait. My living quarters Are a warehouse divided into 8 foot by 14 foot rooms that sleep two to four people. There Are no plugs for the people who done to have a room against a Concrete Wall Only outside showers and latrines no individual lighting and both enlisted and officer personnel female Are quartered am not writing to complain about these conditions. I am a Soldier and at least i am not living in the Sand. But what i am complaining about is a sign at the front Entrance of my Barracks female that says a no males beyond this Point. This sign offends me As a person a Soldier a woman and As a human being. This sign assumes that just because another Soldier is a male that his actions or mine in my 8 foot by 14 foot room shared by others Are suspect or maybe even immoral. At a recent a town meeting a 1 brought this subject up to the command sergeant major in charge of theater and although several cos and officers agreed he admonished me about the dangers of male visitation in female Barracks. He said that if this were allowed he would have at least a four pregnant females or there would be a fist fights in the Barracks. I found this View to be narrow minded and antiquated. The army spends millions recruiting the brightest and Best of our american society and then we have to Deal with this. Here we Are confined to a Complex that is said to be 2 Miles Square and morale tends to be Low. What would it harm to have male visitors not orgies in female Barracks after duty hours and before lights out we Are responsible adults and know How to conduct ourselves. And if not there is still the uniform code of military Justice. A sgt. Catherine e.
