Kennedy d-mass., chairman of the Senate labor and human resources committee said the Standard a represents sound Public health policy that is in the Best interests of both patients and medical outpacing democrats in fund raising Washington apr president Bush on monday requested $2.6 million in Federal Matching funds for his re election Campaign while the six democrats vying for their party a nomination requested a combined $3.2 million. The first Matching fund requests of the 1992 Campaign offer Clear evidence of the relative ease at which Bush can raise More Money than his democratic rivals. Iowa sen. Tom Harkin made the largest request among the democrats asking for $1.1 million in Matching funds. Nebraska sen. Bob Kerrey and Arkansas gov. Bill Clinton each requested $580,000 and former Massachusetts sen. Paul Tsongas requested $486,000. Trailing in the democratic Field were former California gov. Jerry Brown who requested $289,000, and Virginia gov. L. Douglas Wilder who filed for $203,000. Lenora Fulani a new Alliance party presidential candidate has filed for Matching funds totalling $633,866, which is More than any of the democrats except Harkin in the Field. The requests for Matching funds Are not necessarily illustrative of a candidates Overall fund raising but mondays filings with the Federal election commission demonstrated Bush a commanding Lead Over his democratic rivals in drawing Money. Contributions from political action committees do not qualify for Matching funds and Only the first $250 of each individual contribution is eligible. Bush raised More than $5 million at four fund raisers in the past month. Among the democrats Harkin Kerrey and Clinton Are having the most fund raising Success. Tsongas is holding his own in the Early going. Still fund raising is far off the Pace of four years ago. Michael Dukakis the democratic nominee in 1988, had raised $10 million at this stage four years ago. None of the 1992 democratic candidates has yet raised $2 million. They attribute the slower Pace of fund raising to the late starting race and the anaemic Economy. Kerrey spokesman Steve Jarding said the Nebraska senator raised $1.2 million in october and november bringing his total fund raising to about $1.4 million. Harkin aides said the Iowa senator had raised about $1.3 million As of last week. Clinton aides refused to provide fund raising totals. Tsongas spokeswoman Peggy Connolly said he was approaching the $1 million Mark and had borrowed $175,000 against his expected Matching funds. Brown is limiting contributions to $100, so his match ing fund request of $289,000 mirrors his Overall fund raising. Wilder a fund raising has been sluggish forcing him to push Back to feb. 1 his goal of reaching $1 million by the end of the year. The Matching funds requested monday will be paid out in january after a review by Federal election commission auditors. If All Are approved the Treasury account for primary elect Ion Matching funds could shrink to about $10 million.
