The Story did not give the details of the rampage or How Farley obtained his Arsenal. Farley obtained each of his weapons legally. He met the requirements to Purchase each of his weapons in California. In addition he had passed an extensive background investigation and held a Security clearance until his employment was terminated. His neighbors said he was the quiet Type and kept to himself. None of them could believe he would do such a wicked deed. Regardless of what the gun control advocates say a background Check would not have stopped the bloodshed. Richard Farley would have found another Way to get to Laura Black. How do i know this i worked there. Those people were my friends and associates. I knew the seven people who perished at the hands of Richard Farley and they Are sorely missed. Mark d. Still Mainz Fin than Germany generous act i would like to thank the person who found my Wallet at the army Post office in Firth on . 6. I was relieved and delighted by your action. I also want to thank Post office supervisor Charles Ulm and his staff for their efforts to Contact me about the wallets being turned in. The consideration of everyone involved was heartening and prompted some thought about How to use the Money that was in the Wallet. Because of you it went to a Christmas gift program for children in the Niernberg military Community and to a bread for the world project. Thank you for making my holidays exceptionally merry. A Judy Messal Firth German caring about troops i am president of an organization called America cares formerly the great alaskan hug. In december we had a Christmas tree displayed in our town mall. The a a ornaments on the tree were names and addresses of service members. The purpose of the tree was for people to take an a a ornaments and Send that serv ice member a Christmas card. That tree was up for a month and was extremely successful. I very person i had a name for received at least four Christmas cards. Because of the great Success of this project our town mall has offered a permanent site for an a America cares display that will be up year round. That letter prompted me to write because until now i did no to think it was important to express my opinion. I thought our Gate guards Back at Eglin fab Fla were great but the Gate guards Here at Pitburg Are also top notch a always Friendly and smiling. So done to feel bad there Are people who respect you. It can to be easy to remain pleasant in the Middle of the night and in foul weather. Keep up the Good work. A Kathy Caudill Pitburg Germany Man at shone a a backed a recent letter concerned a news report of an attempted armed robbery at a Shoneye a restaurant. During the course of this robbery a single customer attempted to hide under his table while three armed criminals forced the rest of the patrons and employees from the dining area into the Kitchen. When discovered by the criminals the customer Drew his pistol which from All reports he legally owned and was lawfully authorized to carry concealed on his person and in fear of his life defended himself. In the ensuing gunfight the customer killed one of the criminals and wounded another who was subsequently captured by police. The third tied the scene and his status was unreported. No other individuals were wounded and no charges were brought against the customer. 1 object to the writers descriptions of letters to the editor this customer As a a self styled Wyatt Earp Quot a a Clint Eastwood Wannabe or a a judge jury and the customer did not jump up at the Start of the robbery and attempt a shootout in the Middle of a crowded restaurant. Rather he attempted to hide from the criminals. We do not know if the three criminals intended anything More than robbery of the restaurant and its patrons. However we have no indications that they did not intend any bodily harm to anyone else either. Far from endangering bystanders you must allow at least the possibility that this lawfully armed customer May have saved innocent lives. I will not attempt to cite this Case As proof that everyone in America should carry a gun. Although i own several handguns myself i am not a a gun nuts and the thought of a Bunch of untrained people running around with strapped on and tied Down hog legs scares me silly. But what this incident should show is that neither a gun nor a gun owner is necessarily evil or dangerous. A firearm is simply a tool to be used to accomplish a purpose. The criminals in the attempted robbery were obviously using these tools recklessly and illegally for an unlawful purpose. However the customer used his tool carefully and skilfully for a legitimate purpose. The recent writers derogatory characterizations of the individual involved in this incident Are both inaccurate and unfair. A Brian w. Mclean Vaihinger Germany learning from the past this is in response to a no reminders i think the writer was on the right path but Wasny to looking at the a big we As people need on occasion to be reminded of the atrocities our people had to endure so we can make sure it does no to happen again. Every now and then a Little tap on the shoulder is needed to make sure we done to get complacent and satisfied with our present situation because after All we still Haven to overcome. Never be ashamed of where you come from or what happened in the past. Just learn from it and use it As a source of motivation to propel you where you want to be and then keep striving. A airman 1st class Victor g. Guyton Iraklion Crete Duke a danger to All this is in reply to the letter a Hooray for it was a sad reminder that racism and bigotry still exist. I was born and raised in Mississippi and i have seen his kind Loo Many times. I am White and was raised in a prejudiced atmosphere. But now i realize that it does t matter How you were brought up a what color or race you Are. What matters is what you Are now. If we continue to support bigots like David Duke then we Are going backward instead of Forward. It starts in the Home. In be taught my children that America is made up of people from All Over the world. Nobody has preference Over anybody else. Done to let Martin Luther King dream end with Duke. When you vote this year remember that any person running is More qualified and More for America than Duke. Duke is a danger to equal rights and Liberty for All. Are you a spec.
