I lost my Job last april. Since then i have applied Tor 130 positions and spent More than $900 in Job search and travel expenses. After eight months with nothing but rejection i feel like a loser. Meanwhile some financial analysts say there is no recession and i am eating Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches and living in an unheated apartment. I dread running into former co workers or College classmates for fear they will ask a what Are you doing now a its a daily struggle to get out of bed in the morning and write application letters and make phone Calls. I know that i need a positive attitude in order to get a Job but after months of failure its hard. My Bills Are piling up and in a afraid i have messed up my credit rating. I have been told that fast food places Are hiring with flexible hours. I done to have a problem with people who work at fast food spots. I did it in High school. But College educated professional people done to work in those places. The pay is terrible. Thank you Ann for printing that woman a letter. You really made me feel less alone. I can personally attest to the fact that this is not an exclusively male initiated problem although i agree that women Are overwhelmingly its victims because of the predominance of men occupying positions of authority Over women. I am a Man. Twenty five years ago when i was a Young medical corpsman in the military on two separate occasions i was the victim of sexual harassment. Both times the perpetrators were female officers nurses in authority Over me. When i politely turned Down their advances i received poor Job assignments the least desirable work schedules etc., until i managed to get transferred out of their work areas. Abby no one a male or female a should tolerate this kind of abuse. The government Agency charged with the responsibility for investigating reports of sexual harassment at the workplace is the Federal governments equal employment Opportunity commission there Are regional offices in larger cities around the country. A a Michael was never a typical teen Ager a he was too sick. High school was a place he fought to attend and when he finally graduated his entire life revolved around the dialysis machine. After several heartbreaking kidney transplant failures he received one his body did not reject. Michael is now one of the longest surviving transplant recipients in the country. I wonder if the family members who saw clearly enough at their time of loss to donate organs realize what this unselfish act has meant to me. My family my brother his new Bride and her family. Since that frightening Day of his transplant Michael has built a successful career and finally had enough Confidence in his health to marry. Perhaps one Day ill have a precious Little Niece or Nephew. I done to know who the donor was but his family has my undying thanks. That transplant saved the life of a wonderful person.
