European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - February 13, 1992, Darmstadt, Hesse Terpiece6 now h ii i from left a line of Fence posts a Row of Trees a rugged Mountain Peak and a Cluster of Man made structures stand out in the Snow. By Ron Mckinney staff writer when Winter comes to Austria there is Beauty All around from the magnificence of the mighty Snow covered Alps to the delicacy of a thin Coaling of Frost on a Bare Twig. Perhaps the Best Way to appreciate nature s gifts is by taking a casual stroll in the Countryside. The wooded landscape painted White by a fresh layer of Snow and lying under a tranquil stillness has a calming feted. The wind is still animals for the most part non existent apparently preferring to slumber during this quiet moment. The Only movement is yours and the chilled breath Vapours that Trail behind the Only sounds the occasional soft voices that carry across open Fields of Snow. The stroll should be done at a leisurely Pace with plenty of time to observe the wonders the Snow has made. The creations Are everywhere in the towering Mountain peaks in the Pine Trees weighted Down by eight inches of new Snow in rows of icicles hanging from roofs in the footprints left by dogs frolicking in the Snow. Even the outline of the wooden posts of a Fence winding up a Hill is something to gaze at its dark shape a contrast to the Bright sparkling Snow. An unhurried inspection of Trees and Brush reveals nitty patterns of Frost that could be easily overlooked in the Hustle Bustle of Normal City life. In the Woods away from the tumultuous activity of the cities activity slows to a near Hall giving time for a closer look. Yet even the sights of a City Are a elected by Snow ail. In an aged Tirol Ian Village a postman rides his bicycle on the Snow packed Road the mail slotted in sidebars. A seemingly ancient Church tolls its Bells the ringing echoing into the Distant stillness. Few cars rumble Down the Village s main Snow packed Street. Instead the roads belong to the Village s inhabitants who go about their daily business on foot. The falling of snowflakes their random path changing effortlessly As they Drift to the ground adds to the intoxicating sights. It is a moment to be cherished and locked away in memory. It is a moment to be captured on film. A amps photos by Ken George stripes Magazine february i 1992 Snow and ice create patterns with a Bare Branch and a railed Fence.
