An International team of experts from Germany the United states and Russia has gathered More than 800 pieces of work from the archives and files of the a Tretyakov gallery in Moscow the russian museum in St. Petersburg the Guggenheim museum in new York and the Schirn s own collection. Some of the works had been in storage in Russia for nearly 60 years. Researchers were not even aware of some pieces they discovered while looking for others and were so impressed with what Thev saw that the discoveries were eventually included in this show. The Schirn helped pay to have several of the damaged works restored. As important As the show is for the Art historians and experts its attraction for the Layman would seem less because of the Lack of sensational pieces. But attendance at the exhibit thus far has proved otherwise thousands have been flocking to the exhibit. The exhibit includes works of sculpture painting graphics architecture theater Art photography and handicrafts. It traces the movement of Avant Garde Art from the Periphery of russian culture to its Center during the first and glorious Days of the russian revolution to the time when the government under Josef Stalin lowered the Hammer on All free artistic Endeavor. The exhibit begins in 1915, the year of the last futuristic exhibition 0.10 in St. Petersburg. This was the period when cubism was fading and the first supremacist paintings by Casimir Malevich began appearing. Among his works were the spectacular Black Square which is now in the Possession of the Tretyakov gallery and was part of the show.
