By Ron Mckinney staff writer during three Days of american festivities a czechoslovak style a More than 15,000 people crowded into Pulzen s downtown Square to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the City s liberation from nazi occupation. Vintage tanks and jeeps world War ii veterans and numerous dignitaries were brought together for the friends of the Usa Day Quot Celebration that ended last week. But the True spirit of the event could be seen in residents of the Industrial City in Western Czechoslovakia. They came to the festival dressed in red. White and Blue. Some wore the american Flag As a Cape. Hundreds were dressed in military uniforms Complete with Rucksacks and camouflaged faces True to the Pulzen heritage there was plenty of Beer. The Pilsner a quell sold at the main Square went for about six cents for a half liter cup. At that Price there was no shortage of people milling around the main Square a some sitting others laying Flat on their backs a to indulge in the local brew. Two stages at the Square also were Host to numerous bands taking turns playing to the crowds. Away from the main Square people sat on Park benches or on the overgrown grass. A few younger couples danced. The american Flag symbolized the three Day event the stars and stripes was prominently displayed at nearly every store and hundreds of czechoslovak waved Small flags. After a local band played the czechoslovak National Anthem at a ceremony a Pulzen woman led cries for the Star spangled Banner. To her Delight the band played an impeccable if not uptempo version of National Anthem. Many of the party goers were planning to attend the 1995 Celebration which will Mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation they predicted it will rival the first festival in 1990, which Drew More than 100,000 people to the City.
