Bamberg Soldier charged with Bank account thefts by the stars and stripes a Soldier assigned to Bamberg Germany has been charged with running a fraud by wire scheme that siphoned thousands of dollars from soldiers stateside Bank accounts into an account in Liechtenstein according to a 3rd inf div news release. Spec. Joseph m. Durocher was charged with larceny forgery and improper use of a government computer according to the release. Durocher is assigned to he Btry 2nd in 14th Field arty it said. Money from the accounts of 10 soldiers was transferred to the Liechtenstein account the release said. Eight of the 10 account holders have been re paid and the other two will be re paid shortly the release said. The army is coordinating its investigation with the Justice department and the Fri. Durocher is in pretrial confinement in Mannheim Germany. The thefts apparently were limited to soldiers from the Bamberg artillery battalion to which Durocher is assigned and All the Money was transferred from stateside Bank accounts. Investigators said the suspect obtained copies of soldiers leave and earnings statements which list Bank account numbers. A Soldier who lost $1,600 from his Dallas Bank account because of the scheme told the stars and stripes on wednesday that Durocher is a clerk who routinely handled leave and earnings statements for members of the unit
