Its time that the dependents living near Izmir air station be recognized for their efforts in a coping with the  for those who Are unfamiliar with Izmir i would like to enlighten you As to our circumstances and living conditions. The main fact is there a no base in Izmir. We have neither the Protection nor the convenience of base living. Our military facilities Are located in rented buildings throughout the City. We live in apartments on the Economy and have to walk the streets of Izmir to go to work school shopping Etc. During the past year our Community was in and out of a threat con Charlie a and a a Delta because of numerous terrorist activities including bombings and shootings. During a threat con Delta a we were confined to our apartments most of which do not have the luxury of receiving american television broadcasts. Schools were closed As threat conditions demanded. Starting times were changed daily and bus routes were alternated. Our children were transported on turkish buses with armed turkish guards aboard. Even with these hardships we were not evacuated. Faced with an unfunded Mel emergency leave most dependents chose to remain in Izmir. It was stated in your article that the children at in Ciurlik were not allowed outside and had nothing to do but watch the developments of the War on can in their own Homes. I find this questionable since most dependents were evacuated to the states at the first outbreak of hostilities and did not return until the end of the school year. We of the Izmir military Community live with the threat of terrorism daily. Through it All our children remain steadfast accepting whatever life Here Lias to offer them. A Nina m.
