She just has to. A a in la always sing because you be got to sing to live a said Spurlock. So an assignment with the department of defense dependents schools to Northern Italy five years ago has had an obvious result. She is the Only non italian in the Tomat Corodi spi Limberg a 60-member a Cappella choir that specializes in Renaissance music. A i heard about them in a roundabout Way a said Spurlock the music teacher at Aviano elementary school. A i went to observe and the next thing i knew i was in at her tryout she impressed the Maestro who asked her to join. Spurlock grew up about As far away from Renaissance music As one can get. Her Home is in Springfield mo., in the heart of the ozarks where country Singer Conway Twitty is More Likely to be heard than music written 500 years ago to be Sung in giant cathedrals. After studying music at evangel College in Springfield and teaching in Springfield schools Spurlock decided to see the world and landed a Job with Dodds in 1987. One year later she was singing in the choir lifting her Soprano voice in churches older than the music she was singing. Spurlock is not fluent in italian but she gets by she said. Plus the choir sings in Many languages including French Spanish and German a and dialects of the the greatest difficulty comes when the choir decides to add a piece familiar to All members except Spurlock. A i have to have music in front of me a she said. A if i could not sight read i would really be in the greatest problem associated with the language she said is that she often never knows where the choir is going to be singing until it gets there and she often leaves the concert still not knowing Why the choir was invited to perform. Her participation in the choir has meant travel. Her most ambitious journey happened in april when she accompanied the choir to Japan with a Stopover concert in Seoul South Korea. The japanese trip was taken to help inaugurate a hotel that is decorated in part by mosaics done by artists from the mosaic school in spi Limberg one of Only two such schools in Italy. A it was incredible a she said still impressed weeks later by the hotel. Less impressive however was some of the food that the japanese hosts fed their guests. Spurlock Ana another choir member were staying with a japanese family. She reached for some food she recalled and had it in her Mouth before realizing it was raw fish. Not wanting to insult her smiling hosts Spurlock had to Swallow. A the tears were running Down a she said. A the family was smiling and Spurlock has Sung in choirs most of her life and this one although unique is simply a necessary part of living for Spurlock.
