I Salute each of the wives and their valiant efforts to keep on marching however there is an even smaller minority of military on whom you have failed to focus . Families. My husband is a Marine attached to the United nations in the Middle East. We have endured a two year separation. I spend much of my time not knowing where my husband is he has served in Syria Mozambique and Egypt. Many of his comrades from All Over the world must serve the cause of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina Iraq Lebanon and other dangerous places. These men Are risking their lives in the name of peace. We also wait patiently and sometimes impatiently for our peacekeepers to come Back. We also mourn the nameless peacekeepers killed in the line of duty. I fear our society will become More and More anti Hunting As our population becomes More Urban. Many Urban people do no know any Hunters personally and form opinions based on information obtained through Media coverage. I need not Tell anyone about the politically Correct Bent of the Media but that s deviating from the purpose of this letter. One letter writer encouraged people to support Peta. People should look int organizations they plan to support whether it be Peta or any others. In this Case people should be aware there is a big difference Between animal welfare and animal rights. Animal welfare deals with the proper humane treatment of animals. Animal rights Deal with giving rights to animals similar or equal to those Given to human beings. It is to this last group that Peta belongs. Although its advertisements address popular heart tug Ging issues such As Hunting cosmetics test ing and fur Coats the organization also wants to ban animal use period. In the animal rightist s mind an animal has the same rights As you me or your child. They want no medical research using animals no use of animals for food this includes Dairy cows giving milk no exploitation of animals As pets or guide dogs. Animals should be treated As humanely As possible in All cases and in the Case of medical testing when valid no animal methods of testing Are available they should be used. Rules for the treatment of animals used in research Are very strict to ensure the animal suffers As Little As possible. As a matter of fact most lab animals live better than the homeless on our City streets and the poor in our slums. Not everyone who supports or joins Peta is an ardent animal rightist the majority Are probably Well meaning  ple who feel strongly about animal Wel fare they probably even own a dog or two eat Chicken and cheese and Wear leather and Wool. As with every cause there Are always people on the car  once heard an animal rightist say that she would not allow even one mouse Todie to test a cure if her 4-year-old son was ill. First let me offer kudos to him for latching onto the article by William Buckley relating the horrifying statistics supporting his ascertainment of rampant promiscuity among Gays. The percentages were shocking however not nearly As shocking As statistics that were compiled from a 1978 study that took place three years before his aids was identified. I believe if he were to pursue the same study today he would find that promiscuity among Gays has dropped considerably. What has increased in the same circles is the practice of Safe sex. Heterosexual Intercourse can allow the transmission of his if one of the part ners is infected. In both cases however the use of a condom significantly reduce the risk of passing the virus. Second his is not transmitted through casual Contact i.e., card playing toilet sharing handshaking and saluting. Third even if the military docs away with pre induction testing which is not very Likely it is almost ludicrous to think that in service testing would be eliminated. At the very least just As food serv workers Are tested for typhoid be cause of their propensity toward infection those Servic members whose military occupational specially mos puts them at risk of contracting or pass ing his will continue to be tested. This disease is preventable. If everyone at risk would take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the Dis ease it could virtually be eliminated. Instead use Glass Ceramic or porcelain dishes. If people must buy plastic spoons Forks and knives clean and reuse them. The plastic or paper shopping bags should be reused. Why throw them away when they can be used for the next shop Ping trip plastic bags fold up to pocket size. The Brown paper bags fold up too. Leave some in the car.
