Morosow and shush skin the russian collectors from Monet to Picasso includes 120 works of French impressionists and classic modern artists. The exhibit which represents French Art in the years Between 1866 and .1914, has been attracting hundreds of viewers since opening in late june. The exhibit includes works collected within a 10-year this exhibit ends oct. 31. Period by two Moscow textile merchants Ivan Morosow and Sergei shush skin. Morosow and shush skin come from fascinating and _ contrasting backgrounds. The Morosow were indentured servants at the beginning of the 19th Century who bought their Freedom. The collector s great Grandfather founded a factory in Moscow in 1812 which was so successful that by the end of the Century the family became the country s most famous industrialists and supporters of Art and literature. R the she Hukins settled in Moscow during the second h Alf of the 18th Century As established merchants. After a fire destroyed Moscow in 1812, the collector s Grandfather rebuilt the business and his father was called a grand Mogul of the textile business. Morosow died in Germany in 1921, shush skin in Paris in 1936. The Essen exhibit is the first show that reveals the Structure of the two men s collections by placing Side by Side similar works by the same artist which were purchased by the two collectors. Personal rivalry it appears was one of the driving forces of the two. Both men cherished the works of the same artist and if one bought for example a still life with fruit by Cezanne the other had to have something similar. Yet there were differences. Morosow had a preference for Pierre Renoir shush skin favored Claude Monet and both men collected Paul Ca Guins with identical intensity. Shush skin leaned toward Henri Matisse Morosow was decisively enthusiastic for Paul Cezanne. Shush skin discovered Pablo Picasso exclusively for his collection while Morosow collected Pierre Bonnard. The she Hukins and Morosow both had Palace residences in Moscow where their collections were on View for a select few. The Cream of modern russian Art Vladimar Tatlin Kasimir Malevich and Mikhail Larionov for example first viewed the French moderns in these collections and were duly influenced by what they saw. After the russian revolution the collections were put into the custody of the state meaning they were taken away and put into the museum for new Western file Buve use of a of Nae a 1901 Oil painting by Pablo Picasso is part of the Essen exhibit. Art in the 1920s. When the museum was closed in 1948, the collection was divided Between the Pushkin museum in Moscow and the Hermitage museum in Leningrad St Petersburg. The names of the collectors were never mentioned and were forgotten except for by experts in the East and West. The current exhibit nearly failed to materialize because of a years Long court suit Between the russian state and the shush skin heirs. The russians feared the heirs might try to impound the works while they were abroad in Germany. The exhibit includes masterworks by the following artists Pierre Bonnard Georges Braque Paul Cezanne Edgar Degas Maurice Denis Andre Derain Vincent Van Gogh Camille Pissarro Pierre Pubis de Chavannes Alfred Sisley Maurice de Vlaminck and Douard Vuillard to mention a few. The museum Folk Wang is located on goeth Strasse 41 in Essen. The exhibit will continue through oct. 31 and is open on tuesday wednesday thursday and sunday from 10 , to 8 00 .
