It is one requesting kudos be Given and not a letter of complaint. I am married to a technical sergeant with the 608th Maint so. He works 12 hour shifts weekends holidays evenings and Days. They Are out there working in All kinds of weather to make sure the Safe Mission goes Forward. The people working for 608 is go on temporary duty very often and in most cases for extended periods of time. They Don t ask for any recognition nor do they Ever get any but i am Here to say that they deserve it big time. For such a Large Squadron whose Mem Bers have very Little free time they Are one of the most Active in the support of Mission personnel and family members. Every time that my husband has gone toy i have been contacted and visited by several members of the unit who just want to make sure everything is going Well for my family and to see if there is anything they can do for us. Several members of the unit Are the main volunteers for the designated Driver Gram others Are involved with the Foster parents program. This time my husband will be gone for up to four months and As i am employed full time and also have children. I need More support than i Ever dreamed Possi ble. The unit went above and beyond what would be considered Normali sup port."., they sent me a list with every category of assistance that they were willing to provide. They have called several times to offer support. My husband has Only been gone for a Little Over two weeks. They were there for me when my car was not operating properly. I have talked to several other spouses who have also received this outstanding support. The important thing is that do have support and that the people of this unit have pulled together to keep the Mission personnel and families a priority. A Dianna d. We arc the people a recent letter writer does not claim to be a constitutional scholar yet he insults those who argue that the second Amend ment enforces an individual right As intellectually Blind or stupid. The second amendment states a Well regulated militia being necessary to the Security of a free state the right of the people to keep and Bear arms shall not be the writer stated that because of the Well regulated militia portion of the text the right to keep and Bear arms is a collective right afforded Only to those in a government sponsored military or paramilitary organization. He neglects however the very key to the whole amendment the right of the .-.". When composing the Bill of rights the framers used the people and rights to denote an individual right. When they wished to convey a collective right they used the the phrase the right of the people appears in the first and fourth amendments in the same Way As in the second. To claim the people in the second amendment Means a collective or state right would by the same reasoning eliminate the individual liberties of the people to peaceably assemble and be free from unreasonable searches and seizures. Historically English common Law recognized this right As making possible both common and personal defense. The amendments in the Bill of rights were framed to protect individual rights from governmental infringements. No supreme court decision has Ever held the right to keep and Bear arms As a collective right in fact All four relevant supreme court decisions have recognized that the second amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and Bear if liberals interpreted the second amendment the Way they interpret the rest of the Constitution firearms ownership would be mandatory for every Man woman and child. Commentary Leone Yfem by Jerry Zezima now that 1994 is Here meaning it will be at least three months before we Stop writing "1993" on our banking trans actions it is time for our annual look Back at the top stories of the past year. These Are not goofy Little news items dealing with such inconsequential mat ters As the new presidential administration or the Economy or various conflicts around the world. Rather they Are the kind of important socially significant and absolutely True stories that Are the Lifeblood of this column. So Here without further delay Are the top stories of 1993. The person who had the Best nose for news last year was Peter Williams of Evansville ind., whose nose was bitten off in a bar fight. Even though Williams later got his nose Back in a specimen Jar the nose was picked As evidence in the casette Man accused of doing the biting Carl a. Fos Ter was acquitted of aggravated assault. Foster presumably promised the judge to keep his nose clean. Marriage got a shot in the Arm last year when Michael Lenick a 63-year old football fan from Sewall s Point Fla., was shot in the Arm by his 60-year-old wife Marlene who is definitely riot football fan. It seems Marlene was so fed up with her husband s obsession with football that she shot him twice with a .38-caliber handgun when he sat Down to watch a game Between the cowboys and the eagles. Mike was not seriously injured. Good thing for him that Marlene. Was t lined up in a Shotgun formation. In other news on the marriage front an appeals court in Santa Ana calif., ruled that Brenda Joyce Johnston could not get an annulment just because her husband Donald had become a Slob. As Donald s attorney said afterwards he never promised her he would take show sounds like a soap opera. Needless to say marriage is not a piece of cake. And sometimes neither is the wedding reception which is what newlyweds John and Tracey o Donnell of Bridgeport conn., found out when they were charged with breach of peace it happened after they began fighting while feeding each other wedding cake. Love problems weren t confined to humans in 1993. Take the Case of Rocky a Chihuahua who somehow managed to impregnate Canella a Rottweiler very much against the wishes of Canella s owner Kevin Foley of key Largo Fla. Foley subsequently sued Rocky s owner Day Mai Diaz and won a settlement of $2,567.50, thus proving that every dog has his Day even in court. In other animal news Shanda a Golden retriever was elected mayor of Guf Fey Colo. The previous mayor was a cat. In Sweden a newspaper gave five Stock analysts and a Chimpanzee named Ola the equivalent of $1,250 each to make As much Money As they could on the Stock Market. While the experts care fully considered their portfolios Ola threw darts at the names of companies listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. The ape obviously a Chimp off the old Stock made monkeys of the humans. Finally our favorite news item of1993 Paul Lyons of Southbridge mass., received a Patent for his latest invention musical condoms. We just Hope they Don t play the minute Waltz. On that note Here s hoping 1994 is an other great year. C the Stamford Conn advocate res zonk. Pot Epand Mike comic 1oan6u1ek toyoua6ainffdm Kur actual Peak or.
