Stripes taken Down As the Mannheim High school head wrestling coach i am about to body slam Andy Rooney and Cross face the Sta Sand stripes. This is my first year coaching and yet ican t believe How sorry the coverage in the newspaper is. Every week you have two or More pages covering High school basketball and in the Corner you la put reduced print summation of wrestling with absolutely no Story line. You Are contributing to the ignorance and prejudice this oldest and greatest sport in the world faces. It is completely obvious that you could care less about the hundreds  Here who work hard and get no recognition. Which brings me to my next Point. Sunday s paper carried an Andy Roo Ney article saying girls should not wrestle in High school. Andy is the person who does not have the experience or knowl Edge to be commenting on this sport. His grandson s wrestling coach is worried about a female wrestler getting Hurt or inappropriate body Contact. This coach should t be coaching if Pecan t treat All his athletes the same. When i started coaching i had several concerns about a Young woman being on the team but none of my concerns As this coach stated came to Light. In fact the Young men on my team Nave Learned to respect women in today s society and no female wrestler is going to be touched in appropriately in front of spectators referees and coaches. I Hope Andy Rooney s grandson finds better wrestling coach and i Hope the stars and stripes starts giving equal coverage to All sports. Maybe the last thing is too much to Hope for. I am very grateful to the military for teaching me Good values allowing Meto pursue my education and giving me the direction that was sorely lacking indy character before i enlisted. Unfortunately our lawmakers Are no very caring and do not look put for the interests of the nation s military Mem Bers. We Are the Only group within the Federal retirement system subject to discriminatory Law. When a member s spouse decides to leave after Over 10years of marriage and 10 years of military service it is the military member who gets the proverbial Shaft. I am separating with Only four year left to retirement because after taxes her 50 percent share of the retirement an child support i will be in negative num Bers. I believe the amount of compensation for the spouse s military service should be based upon the value of the former spouse s foregone career. If the spouse had a Good Job and had to Termi Nate that employment to follow the Mili tary spouse then the amount of compensation should be based upon the years of employment sacrificed for the  the spouse did not work but remained in the Home As a homemaker then it would not be difficult to calculate the value of this As Well. For me it is jus not Cost effective to remain in the Mili tary any longer. While the military spouses a vital anchoring stabilizing Force in our military and deserves a share of the retirement i believe we Are being discriminated against As Federal workers. Eve when one of the Wiesbaden players ver Bally abused his own coach and threw chair out on the court there was t even a technical foul Given by the referees who obviously were not in control of a very volatile  coaches should be applauded for hustling our team and cheerleaders off tothe safety of the gym where they had to be guarded by military police overnight because people were trying to break into the gym. They courageously refused to play the game the next Day and returned  were the people in charge the maps could not even Clear the gym the principal stood around and did nothing adult fans contributed to the abuse an the referees called no technical fouls or tried to restore  behaviour cannot be condoned. Sports events should be competitive but yet enjoyable and Safe. A varsity basketball player of mine had his knee injured in the first basketball game of the year. It took Overa month for him to be diagnosed. In this time period the doctor who first saw jus tin lost the referral paperwork which caused a two week delay. The orthopaedic specialist sent Justin Toa German Hospital for magnetic Reso Nance imaging. One month after the in jury he was diagnosed As having a torn ligament. The orthopaedic doctor told Justin he would be operated on in March. In the meantime Justin will have to forgo his senior year of starting in basketball. He has worked hard to become a very Good basketball player the past three years and was looking Forward to being starter his senior year. At present he is wearing a knee Brace and i have seen him twice in the past week Grimace in severe pain while just walking. He is sup posed to endure this for two More months three years ago i had an athlete Tea the same ligament. His dad a civilian opted to have him operated on at a Ger Man Hospital. He was seen one Day and operated on the next Day. He got Exten Sive physical therapy and was practising with the team four weeks later. Speaking of physical therapy i had two other players with injuries this year. On suffered a pulled muscle and the other an Achilles Tendon injury. Both were told we Don t give physical therapy to de Pendents  the Young Man with the Achilles ten Don problem had to wait Over a month and a half before it healed and he could Start practising.
