Hunger for rations the Quality of life has improved greatly for the single Soldier in the past few years. Relaxed billeting rules implementation of Junior Bachelor enlisted quarters and the founding of the Boss better opportunities for single soldiers program Etc. Have helped raise the Quality of life for the single Soldier in the army. To use programs have done much to close the Gap Between single and married life in the military. However one area that has been overlooked is separate rations. All noncommissioned officers in the army should be Given separate rations regardless of rank marital or dependent status. Mission requirements often keep cos from adequate Access to the dining facility. The problem of juggling manpower and time with the limited hours that the dining facility operates is not easily overcome. The officers responsible for the policies have no idea what it is like to be on a meal card. They have been on separate rations throughout their career in the army. Very few of them Ever eat in the dining facility during the week let alone on the weekends when the Quality and variety of meals Are significantly lower. Single soldiers Are constantly encouraged to leave Post and to explore their Host nation during either regular or Holiday weekends. Unfortunately to leave Post for even a Day would mean missed meals with no reimbursements. The cos of today a army Are Bright responsible and better educated. It is time to take the next step in equalizing the difference Between the Quality of life of the married and the single Soldier. This would Benefit All concerned that the resources in completing the Mission could be better managed. The morale of single cos would increase knowing that they have the same Basic entitlements that officers mar Rich soldiers and single soldiers with dependents receive. Staff sgt. Michael k. European come. What i have seen and experienced for years seems to be 1 wait for the problem to happen 2 done to hold anyone accountable 3 done to implement changes policies guidance to prevent them Fourn happening again. Could this problem and Many More like it be attributed to the draw Down closings moves apathy morale or inexperience v suppose the list could go on and on. No wond Tir the army a statement was purposely vague on the reason for the delays. It would probably upset the a dapple cart a if someone something was held responsible. A Richard l. Edick. Wiesbaden Germany right to an education in reference to a tradition Worth keeping Jan. 23the writer apparently feels strongly against women being allowed admission to higher education. Head better Wake up and smell the Coffee because this is 1994. Not Only do women have the right to the same Quality and Type of education at the Citadel but anyone who meets the academic qualifications should be allowed to enrol. This is not a country club this is a school that receives government funding. I wonder what his position is on hispanics Blacks orientals and other minority underrepresented groups. Where exactly does he feel the line should be drawn in enlisted professional military education admission is allowed to All people without regard to race sex color religion Etc. Done to we expect As much from our future leaders will our leadership be made up of individuals who were Given special rights and privileges will they in turn Only respect the rights of others on a selective basis special group ? he a right it is Asl Jame that these types of issues have to be adj used in court at a great expense to the to atm and the Del. We Nave Given women there go hot Vork and the right to vote. How about the right to equal education if they Are considering a career in the military of. Cintron. San Vito air station Italy pay Cut not pay raise it is about time for some of our elected officials and members of the Media to enrol in economics 101 to prevent themselves from spreading misinformation to the pub lie. A. A . A . A a. Case in Point on Jan. 1, 1994, the base pay for military members was increased by 2.2 percent but we All still received a pay Cut of half of one percent. Inflation for 1993 ran at a rate of 2.7 percent. _ Many politicians along with the Media including the stars and stripes have been misleading us when they say that we it five received a pay raise of 2.2 percent. In order for us to have received a pay raise our base pay would have to be increased by More than 2.7 percent. In order for our 1994 pay to have the same buying Power As 1993, we would have needed our base pay to increase by 2.7 percent. The pay freeze that president Clinton called for last year was actually a Call for a pay Cut. V. I want to thank those in Congress who got our base pay increased by 2.2 percent because this did reduce the amount of our pay Cut. A a. V sgt. Kenneth d. Wynn Stuttgart Germany. Blood not a sold on . 1, a front Page Story that seemed Well researched and written was Given an Eye catching headline that possibly misled your readers a German red Cross Selling blood to although it is True . Army hospitals do reimburse the German red Cross for out of pocket expenses when they need blood products that is not quite the same As a Selling blood products or components must be manufactured from donated blood and that process is very expensive not to mention the Cost of collecting testing storing and distributing. In cases of emergency blood products required May not be available from . Sources. The army is simply reimbursing the German red Cross for some of those expenses. That by the Way is Standard practice in the United states when hospitals receive blood products from the american. Red Cross United blood services or other regional blood programs. Its also Worth pointing out that the re cent scandals in Germany concerning tainted blood products shipped from two commercial human plasma companies did not involve the German red Cross. The German red Cross is to be commended for its testing procedures. This valuable service benefits every american living in Germany. A Richard v. Dillenger Schweinfurt Germany a ugly history on to the television show ill Fly away is a slap in the face to All americans. This is an ugly part of american history that should not be repeated every sunday evening. A . A a. In a sure some might say that was just the Way it was but a Jot of people have worked very hard and have even lost their lives in Pursuit of Equality for All. This show paints the picture that most Whites Are prejudiced and that most Blacks Are inferior second class citizens. Is this the picture that we would like to paint for our Host nation of More importantly for our children and family members Here in Europe i think the network that cancelled this show in the United states did everyone a great favor. I wish american forces network would do the same. A staff sgt. Gary t.
