Commentary Faulkner a rebel sparked by lightning by Arnold Abrams Shannon Faulkner decided she wanted to become a Cadet at the Citadel in december 1992 while she was sitting in a High school honors class whose teacher was stressing the seeming impossibility of a thing. It happened when Mike Hazel the teacher of the class which is designed to steer top students into teaching Ca Reers pointed to the Only other male in the room and said Only you can go tothe i was t passing any kind of judgment Hazel an English teacher re called. I was simply stating a fact Only males can attend that but that fact stated bluntly to group of girls at Wren High school in Piedmont s.c., struck a responsive Chardin Faulkner who in addition to having a perfect 4.0 academic average had an impressive list of extracurricular activities an extraordinary amount of Confidence and a Strong Streak of rebelliousness. That was the main lightning right there Faulkner whose father and Grandfather attended the prestigious Mil itary College in Charleston said about Hazel s remark. That same Day Faulkner went to the school Counselor s office and picked up an application for the Citadel.
