Glorifying criminals the controversy surrounding the caning of Michael Fay in Singapore is ridiculous. Just who is the United states to complain about another country s system of punish ment the United states is the land of plea bar gains reduced sentences and Slick defense attorneys that can sniff out a Legal loophole from 10 Miles away allowing the guilty to walk free. Our current Legal system has led to an erosion of discipline in this country because people Are no longer held accountable for their actions. For example if you Are a kid in a foreign country vandalizing cars the president of the United states himself will speak up on your behalf. What Complete nonsense. Michael Fay should be looking Forward to his caning. After All once it is Over he can Fly Back to the United states and sign sever Al lucrative Book and movie offers As soon As he Steps off the plane. He will be an instant celebrity and receive lots of Money. After All in the United states we now glorify our criminals. Just ask Tonya Harding. Gee. Too bad she was t in Singapore during Nancy Kerrigan s assault. She should have at least gotten caned before she became Rich. -. " Maxl Shadic Heidelberg Germany pet particulars How dare the writer of pet Peeve april 5 just assume that All who have to give their pet away do it to relieve guilt from treating them badly. I agree that a pet should be a lifelong Friend. Sometimes circumstances change that plan. Maybe the family just found out what was causing their 19-month-old child s asthma attacks. Maybe they noticed that the kids were not treating or taking proper care of the pet. The pet does t always get to Fly on a Mac flight base hotels won t accept pets and boarding can Cost quite a lot. Those who leave their pets behind on the Road Are the ones whom the letter should have been directed. Janine cd Mannheim Germany. What Racket i was pleasantly surprised by a thoughtful article april 12 on Justice Harry Black Mun author of the abortion decision. After Reading the article my Delight was extinguished by the awful cartoon that accompanied it. This cartoon depicted planned parenthood As a Money hungry slaughterhouse. Just when i thought the stars and stripes printed a favourable article on some one who is Choice it had to be Slan dered by this cartoon. If planned parenthood is a Racket As the picture depicts then i sincerely Hope More rack ets appear All Over the United states. Maybe rackets such As equal pay for women a Day care Racket where the prices Are affordable or a revised Racket of health care would eliminate the need for such institutions As planned parenthood. ,Until then Don t take away the few options women have and Don t demean planned parenthood for trying to provide More options Karen Cronin Swartz shape Belgium " Vav disgusted by stories i just finished Reading what i Hope is the last article concerning the trial of . Army sgt. Stephen j. Schap love lost led Schap Down grisly path april 11. Frankly i am appalled at the sensationalist Brand of journalism that has been used to report far More than the necessary facts of the Case. I realize that a murder trial with As Many mitigating factors As this one makes for a Good read but is the stars and stripes really the proper forum for the sordid Back group of this Case As a military journalist i have written dozens of articles for newspaper publications and i am familiar with the elements that make a Good Well written Story \. I realize that As journalists we Learned How Story elements like sex violence and betrayal can capture a Reader s attention. However we were also taught that a responsible journalist reports the facts of a Story accurately briefly and clearly. Nearly three pages of tabloid style reporting detail ing the defendant s childhood and failed marriage cannot be called Brief and Clouds the important facts of the Case. I am personally and professionally disappointed and disgusted to see a newspaper published for and staffed by military Mem Bers resorting to prose usually found on the pages of the National enquirer. I Only wish i were making this up. But co authors Kendall Crolius and Anne Mont Gomery actually want us to Stop sucking up superfluous pet fuzz and get those Needles clacking. Picture this what a Lovely Scarf where did you Petit. \. Of i swept the Kitchen this morning and whipped up this Scarf from our Golden retriever s hair. That s very nearly what happened. Still when Crolius suggested to Mont Gomery that they collaborate on a Book about knitting with dog hair Montgomery thought at first her Friend was a few milk Bones Short of a in time she came around. They say it s perfect because it s economical it s Good for the environment it s kind to animals and it reinforces family values. The last one applies because the kids can help Brush the dog before you run for your grooming tools think for a minute what sort of dog you own. If you Aren t sure about the suitability of your pet s hair for knitting projects you May consult the 17-Page directory in the Book. Maybe your dog s hair can be used exclusively. Maybe it should be blended with hair from other fuzzier dogs. Or maybe it would look Best sprinkled onto Wool or another fiber. For instance Cocker spaniels have perfect hair for spinning.
