The dispute came to a Climax May 24, when military police were called to the school to escort classroom Volunteer Sandra Rowe i from the premises. The forced ejection coincided with a letter from principal Archie Bates barring Rowell from the school because her presence was no longer a welcomed nor  the incident is the latest in a yearlong series of actions that Rowell and teacher Jackie Rushing allege Are direct reprisals for their having filed equal employment Opportunity complaints against the school and the military overseas school system. The complaints which Are pending allege among other things that school officials engaged in discriminatory practices against Rushing who is Black and against minority students. In addition both Rowell and Rushing said they have complained to members of Congress. Rowell befriended the teacher when she worked at the school As a substitute teacher and Volunteer. Bates denied that the decision to bar Rowell from the school was improper. In a May 24 letter to Rowell Bates said the action was necessary because a Rowells presence particularly in Rushing a classroom has interfered with Rushing a teaching. A Rowell has inappropriately involved herself in his supervisory responsibilities and authority As they relate to Rushing a performance and employment. Rushing Rowell a she had previously been informed that her presence in the school has negatively impacted on the school climate and that her school Volunteer role was often counterproductive. The letter also warned that Community military police would be used if necessary. Rowell claims her banishment from the school is the latest in a series of reprisals that have included Rushing a being reported absent without leave when she was ill As Well As a proposed five Day suspension issued to Rushing. In late april Rushing was notified by a Union representative that she had been reported awol and docked five Days pay because she had failed to return to Germany from the United states with a group of students. Rushing claims that she did not return to Germany because of illness and that she had notified the principal and returned with a doctors note. She said the awol status caused her a grave financial hardship and health problems. Rowell said Rushing was so upset when she Learned about the awol Issue that she required emergency room treatment for an anxiety attack. An investigation into the absence led to the May 23 notice of a proposed five Day suspension. Bates on thursday acknowledged that Rushing was Given a Quot proposed disciplinary action a but he declined to discuss the Case saying it would not be appropriate since it had not been finalized. He did say however that the proposal arose from information he received from the department of defense dependents schools general counsel in terms of Legal responsibilities of the educator. A she relinquished some Legal responsibility in spite of my having specifically directed her to do certain things a he said. On May 23, Rushing called Rowell to appear at school with her at a meeting with Bates because she feared a a disciplinary action a she said. Bates declined to discuss that meeting but Rowell said she questioned Bates about whether Rushing a pay would be docked again As it had been when Rushing was taken to the emergency room. Rowell said that later the same Day she was instructed and agreed to sign in As a visitor whenever she was in the school. She did so the following morning she said then proceeded to Rushing a classroom to Clear cabinets in preparation of the school years end. It was then that Bates gave Rowell the letter barring her from the school. She called its Content a nothing but lies a and refused to leave she said. He really is a people person. It was a very exciting and enjoyable week. In july the Norfolk va., native will return to Washington to be meritorious by promoted to chief Petty officer and adm. Mike Boorda chief of naval operations will personally award him the Navy commendation medal and in August Ervin and his wife Philippa will leave London for a two year tour on the staff of the master chief Petty officer of the Navy in Washington. A once again it was a Tough decision to pick the Shore Sailor of the year a Hagan said in a news release a each of the candidates were exceptionally qualified and they exemplified the thousands of sailors who work hard for the Navy and make sacrifices each and every  before his May trip to Washington Ervin an operations specialist whose Job involves surface warfare spent a week in London preparing for the Shore Sailor Competition.
