Many shipments be Long to people who have not yet arrived or pave already departed making it difficult to estimate damage to individual shipments he said. The old base Hospital which is now used for storage and office space sustained about $45,000 in damage. Losses at the sports Center totalled $35,000 arid at the noncommissioned officers club $27,000. The family cat was found huddled on top of the bunk bed unharmed. The maupins had been unable to find her on the Day of the flood. Troy Maupin estimates the family s loss at $23,71 0. It was raw sewage that did most of the damage he said. Many items could have been saved if the Drain age and sewage pipes had t overflowed. However he said the outpouring of assistance from friends and strangers made the ordeal bearable. Food and clothing drives were up and running within 24 hours. Base officials began helping the families with their claims immediately. Monetary advances were available upon request and the maupins final claim is expected to be processed by monday we have really Good friends Here. That makes it easier Christie Maupin said. Viedt was unable to give the name of the parents or travelling companions. The army helped fired lodging near the Hospital for Rush s companions while his parents stayed in the Mil itary Community s Patriot inn billeting. The army also provided chaplain assistance for the family Viedt said. Rush s Mother is staying with it. Col. Harry Tomlin and his wife Donna in Darmstadt while her son is in the Hospital Viedt said.
