Maeroff new York not a Survey of 26,000 High school student leaders across the United states indicates that they Are generally distrustful of government but per haps somewhat More conservative in their attitudes than some people might expect. Eighty three per cent of the students declared themselves in favor of traditional marriage 81 per cent said that school children should not be bused to achieve integration 72 per cent said they never used marijuana and 31 per cent said that labor unions should not be allowed to strike. The Survey was conducted by educational communications inc., which publishes who s who among american High school students. Because the Survey was conducted last summer the responses concerning presi Dent Nixon and the Federal government did not take account of recent developments inthe watergate scandal. On matters of personal life style 72 per cent of the students All of whom had just completed or were entering the senior year in High school said that they had never engaged in sexual Intercourse. Forty one per cent said that they did not approve of premarital Intercourse under any circumstances. Divorce was widely accepted among the students As a Way of solving the problems of a failing marriage. Seventy one per cent said that they would seek divorce if the marriage was not working and All other Means of problem solving had failed. Among religious groups jewish Stu dents found divorce most acceptable 89 per cent of them approving. Seventy one per cent of the protestants approved of divorce and 66 per cent of the roman Cath Olics. On miscellaneous questions 78 per cent of the students said they had never seen a hard Core pornographic movie 86 per cent said they would vote for a qualified Black person for president 62 per cent of the males said they would not serve voluntarily in the armed forces and 98 per cent thought men and women should receive equal pay for equal work.
