I want to meet people in different places my age. I am a 33-years-old filipina but residing in London. My hobbies Are collecting Stamps and cooking. Flat 4-103 Bronde Bury Road London . 6 Art Buchwald Washington like everyone else used to have a Friend at the Chase manhat Tan Bank. My Friend s name was Chaunce Yand he was like a brother to me. When the recent securities and Exchange commission s report was published it turned out according to the Sec that Chase Manhattan was Selling York City securities to its customers at the same time it was unloading the ones it had kept for its own portfolio. I could t believe it so i called Chaun Cey. He was t there. I called him again. After four Calls he finally picked up the phone and said tersely i told you never to Call me at the where am i supposed to Call you wanted to know. What is it i m very Chauncey is that the Way to talk to a Friend we stopped that advertising Campaign two years that s what i m calling about. Remember when you were my Dearest Friend fou years Back and you called me and said you could sell me some of the finest municipal securities Money could buy Well i do. You said that York Cit was on a wave of Prosperity and anyone who bought its notes would never have to worry about his financial i said that you certainly did. You also said that because the demand was so great you were restricting sales of them to Only your Clos est friends. You were dead serious Chauncey. You did t laugh All right for argument s Sake i might Nave said it. What do you want from me Well i just read the Sec report on York City and it claims that All the Tim Chase Manhattan was touting York securities it was unloading its own note because it knew the City was in a fiscal was dead silence on the other end of the line. Chauncey Are you still there yes i m Here. I m sure the Sec report is mistaken. We would never do that to our customers. We re one of the largest Banks in the that s what i said when i bought $20,-000 of the notes. I said if Chase Manhattan recommends them they must be they were Good at the time i sold them to you Chauncey said. They just got Badas time went but Why was Chase Manhattan get Ingrid of its notes when it was pushing them on its friends we Felt we owed it to our customers Tolet them buy them. When the demand was greater than the Supply we had no Choice but to sell the ones we were holding for our own investment. It was t easy. We loved York City securities and it broke our hearts every time we sold then you did t know the City was going broke that s the most insulting question i Veever heard. I m glad David Rockefeller did t take this Call. You would have broken his heart. I thought we were i did too until i read the Sec report. If had a Friend i would t sell him securities that i knew were going Down the Well if you feel that Way about it said Chauncey maybe we should t be friends any i Don t know Why you re getting mad at me. I m the one stuck with the Friendship is based on Trust Chaun Cey told me. You stick by a Friend not Only during the Good times but the bad ones As Well. This Call has Hurt me very much. Never thought you would stoop so Low As to bring up something like this. I Don t think we should see each other any i m sorry Chauncey. I did t mean Roget you it s too late to apologize. You be ruined Beautiful relationship. If you re so Petty As to let a Lousy $20,000 investment in York City securities stand Between us then we Don t have anything More to say to each other. And you can Send Back the toaster we gave you when you opened your c los Angeles times charge for bringing own lunch i just returned from registering my son for school at Heidelberg elementary school no. 2. I was shocked to find that they Are actually going to charge 25 cents per Day when a child brings his lunch. This Money will be used to pay salaries for noon hour aides. I had intended to allow my son to bring his lunch but to pay an additional amount of $1.25 per week is uncalled for. For Chil Dren living close enough to the school in Patrick Henry Village it is a simple conclusion they Are Able to come Home for lunch but we live on the other Side of Pat Rick Henry Village and it would be foolish for my son to run Home for lunch eat hastily and return to class All within 50minutes. Children have Short legs and wandering minds which precludes allowing them to make this daily trip in the allotted can t the teachers do this supervising free for the students a roster could reused so each teacher has her Days to supervise. Teachers Are paid by my tax Sand Are there to teach. Why Are they not Able to help teach lunch room discipline i feel the Pat has become an Organiza Tion of finances and is not concerned about the relationships of parents teachers and children. The Cost of bringing and preparing a lunch for one child a year is reason Able enough but to add 50 to 60 dollars to pay for salaried aides when teachers Cando the same Job is ridiculous. I urge the Pat and the teachers especially to take a second look at this pro Gram. Name withheld Heidelberg editor s note Allen Dale Olson Dodd eur school Community relations coordinator replies the Dodd eur director like school superintendents in All parts of the ., favors a duty free lunch break for teach ers. While local school principals have the authority to direct teachers to supervise children during their lunch recess and most teachers Are willing to do it when there is absolutely no alternative experience in school systems All Over the . Shows that teachers Are More effective when they have a bit of free time away Price correction in a response from Thomas j. Ahern Shoft our sales manager Europe to a recent letter from an unhappy customer Ahern made some Price comparisons be tween charter and commercial flights and we inadvertently changed the Price on on of them. The last paragraph of his response should have read for reference i would like to add that the total Cost of this travel Fra lax so is $229/254 military civilian fares As opposed to $363/612 military civilian fares for a scheduled commercial flight which must go via los Angeles As there Are no direct commercial scheduled flights from Frankfurt to Oakland san colonialism Twenty years ago president Eisenhower persuaded the British to withdraw from the Suez canal. In retrospect this event marked the beginning of the last gasps of colonial imperialism. Today Many americans would have us go to War Over the Panama canal a Bas Tion of american imperialistic much longer shall we continue to be exporters of democracy and Consumers of hypocrisy Paul Dorga Frankfurt from their students during the school Day. Like employees in All walks of life their work is More productive and their moral eat a higher level following a meal break free of responsibility. Both of the teachers unions with offi Cial recognition in Dodd eur have negotiated contracts with school management officials which require local principals to explore every possibility of providing a duty free lunch period for teachers. Because school lunch programs Are the responsibility of installation commanders rather than of school principals the prob Lem of lunch room supervision has always been considered a Community responsibility As much As a school responsibility. Many Dodd eur communities provide Parent volunteers others find ways to pay Community members for such supervision. Probably the most common program Isone paid for by local Pat pts funds. It should also be noted that the euro Pean pts resolved at its convention last Spring to seek ways to support the practice of a duty free lunch for All . I cannot address the matter of a fee required by the local Community Enterprise providing the supervisory service because that is an internal matter of the Organiza Tion in question. No Dodd eur official i authorized to assess a fee of any kind for a Dodd eur service including a registration fee when enrolling students. Funds so generated Are quite useful to school faculties but they must be donations or contributed voluntarily. I Hope the problem of lunch room supervision at Heidelberg elementary school no. 2 can be worked out by various Community elements in such a Way that every student has a comfortable place to eat lunch every teacher has an Opportunity for a restful nurturing lunch break and no organization in the Community risks financial hardship in providing such a serv ice. It seems that the problem is ready made for exploration by the school advis Ory Council and members of other service organizations in the Heidelberg commune european edition col. Billy e.
