European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - September 24, 1977, Darmstadt, Hesse Page 26 the stars and stripes saturday september 24, 1977 pm hosts Hahn Bubo Modem staff writer next to Pitburg s Bernie Raetz the second Best coaching performance in the Continental sports conference Over the past 1 a seasons has been by John Gaydeski of the Hahn Green machine. In that stretch Gaydeski owns an 11-4 record while Raetz with the Csc and Safe championship wins counting has a 17-0 Mark. There Are people in some quarters mostly around Hahn who feel that Gay Deski ranks on the same level As Raetz in coaching techniques conditioning player relationships Etc. There is basis for that Hahn coach John Gaydeski. Outstanding Job Assumption but the Only thing Gaydeski has t done Over Here is to beat Raetz and win Csc and Safe titles. The former can t be accomplished until oct. 8 when Hahn plays at Pitburg in that titanic National division tussle and there Are Many factors before the latter can be accomplished. Hahn must not stub its toe along the Way to that monumental Pitburg meeting and chances Are it won t. Sunday. Gaydeski s legions now 4-1, invade the bastion at Rhein main and the rockets Are hurting and Licking their wounds from one of their worst rubbings Ever that 49-0 Pitburg debacle last week. Hahn in the meantime gave its fans heart palpitations with a rollicking 15-13 Triumph Over the previously unbeaten Wiesbaden flyers 3-1. The Hawks must not take Rhein main for granted because of the Baron runaway. Even though this is a Rhein main off year the rockets should never be taken lightly. Rhein main s Pride has been Hurt and Golf. As usual there Are three games on tap for saturday with the starting times at 2 . The Barons undefeated in their last 21 games dating Back to 1975, seek their 18th straight Victory and sixth in a Row this season against the wingless Wei Blicken warriors 0-5who own Safe s longest current losing Streak 15. The warriors last win was a 29-0 she lacking of Hahn in the final game of the 75 season. Raetz could run up the score in this one but most Likely will open the Gates of mercy because he has an important Date with the american division leading flyers next weekend and wants his team sound for that clash which May be a preview of the Csc championship game oct. 29. Pitburg leads the league in the most Points scored 190, and the least yielded 40. The Barons Are averaging 38.0 Points per contest while giving up eight Points per game. Oddly Pitburg which also leads the Csc in total offence has the worst record among the eight teams in defending against the pass 830 Yards for an average of 166 a game. But then again the Barons own the Best Mark against the Rush 338 Yards for an average of 67.6 Yards per contest. The Fine we Brucken runner Calvin Cameron who is the fifth leading rusher in the Csc May be in for a Long afternoon. The warriors get plenty of Legge into their kicking game what with Steven Legge s 39.0 average the Best in the Loop. Raetz remembers last year s Wei Brucken game All too Well. The warriors Cecil Young returned a first Quarter kick off 91 Yards for a to to tie the game 7-7, and coach Michelangelo Mcallister s we Brucken club gave the Barons All they wanted for a half. Leading 14-7 at the inter Mission the Barons exploded for a 47-7 win but lost linebacker Art Haden for the rest of the season with a broken leg. Haden has returned As a running Back and he Willie Davis Clay Cook and Kevin Mcmillan give Raetz a Superior running attack. Though quarterback Mark Beesley can throw the Barons have been sticking More to the ground than usual because of that foursome. While Pitburg tries to extend two strings its and we Brucken a the ram Stein rams 1-4who have regrouped under new coach Al Woods Host the flyers of coach Joe Glowski. In the other saturday game the sem Bach tigers 3-2 of coach Chuck Parker entertain the pass maniacs of the Csc the Span Dahlem sheiks 1-3. Sembach 2-2 must win if it wants to stay in the think of the american division race. The tigers and sheiks should put on some offensive fireworks. The sheiks of coach Tom Bain come to pass and that is about All. Spang leads the Csc in passing yardage with 924 Yards in four games. Of course Spang has the no. 1 passer in the league in Kelvin Lamb. Lamb has cocked his Arm 99 times completed 42 for 640 Yards and five touchdowns. He has completed 43 per cent of his passes. The sheiks have two of the top five receivers in the Csc in Nathan Lorenzo no. 3, and Sam Clark no. 5. In the Rushing department the sheiks have gained a Pithy 102 total Yards which is a Shade Over 25 Yards a game and that statistic won t win Many games. He has retained Carey s coaching staff of Nate Moore offensive and defensive coordinator Jim riles offensive and defensive line coach and Willie Best defensive coach. The rams Are a rededicated team now says Woods. We could be 4-1 instead of 1 4. We lost some close ones that could have gone either Way. The people we played will Tell you that. Woods saw the flyers last week against Hahn and came away impressed especially with the running of Lee Helms 5-10, 185who last year played linebacker on defense and quarterback on offence be sides being used As a running Back at which he has strictly been this season. Woods feels he has two of the top per formers in the Csc in tight end Charles Mccoy 6-3, 215 and linebacker Carl Sim Mons 6-0, 195. Mccoy who is the Csc s leading pass receiver is a former All Safe selection several times when he was a defensive performer for the Milden Hall marauders of the . Conference. Mccoy s pass receiving statistics Are pretty impressive with 29 catches for 389 Yards a 13.0 Yards per catch average and two touchdowns.
