European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - September 28, 1977, Darmstadt, Hesse Doily Magazine thin Lizzy Sasby Jeff Whitted Phil Lynott i m very by Dan Warfield is entertainment editor Hen he s Home in Dublin do people Start ripping off Phil Lynott s buttons As moments when they see him on the Street no they Don t take me clothes off laughed the Lead Singer of thin Lizzy one of the Best live Rock bands on the concert circuit. I Only wish the women he was still a Little breathless after delivering a blistering set for 40,000 gis and germans in Karlsruhe s football stadium but no that s not the image of the band. We Don t play it As Rock stars. I Don t mind if somebody comes up to me and tells me they re into the band and wants to talk to me just for a minute or so. That s Cool because if i Don t want to talk to them i la say i Don t want to talk to you i m very it s easy to believe Lynott when he says he s in it for the music and let the Fame and Fortune fall where they will. He takes a Long View centuries Long. It just so Hap pens that at this present time musicians Are put up As examples for the people but i Don t really see it. Some Guys the minute they get a deck of cards in their hands they re geniuses. I studied architecture for a Long time and i be seen other Guys the minute they sit Down at the drawing Board they can create these tremendous he left architecture behind for the music but he de fines Art More traditionally than you might expect of a Rock musician More broadly than you might expect of a traditionalist. I m very interested in structures and stuff like that. Say we go to Paris you la find me strolling around notre Dame Cathedral or something like that just checking out the architecture. That was a period in time where architects were allowed to be artists and create completely according to their spirits. Nobody s putting Down monuments of Art like they were years ago where a King wanted something to last for his Princess. Or the churches where they wanted the people to Pray for All time. Nowadays it s just let s get in and make the Money and split in everything the commercial architect is winning. I Hope people will resent it because it does create a social imbalance. If you put people in Square blocks of Flats you re creating problems for the future because them people Are Gonna turn out so what s that got to do with Rock n Roll diary of a mad actress i by Guy Flatley new York times bet you want to know where i be been said the Honey blonde in a vibrant husky voice that has not been heard in too Long a time not since Carrie Snodgress a nobody from Park Ridge 111., captivated the critics with her sly humor and Lumi Nous looks in Frank and Eleanor Perry s diary of a mad housewife. That was seven years ago and where she s been since has been on the Road with the Rock Star Neil Young and on a Remote ranch the couple shared with their son Zeke and random herds of horses and buffaloes. But now she s Back toiling for producer Frank Yablans in the fury the latest blast of fun filled fright from Brian de Palma the director of Carrie. Neil and i had a Good six years together said the 31 year old actress on location in Chicago. We never both ered with a marriage License i wanted him to think of me As somebody different not a wife. When we had prob lems we had to talk to each other about them not to a court. And no judge tells Neil that he can visit his son on weekends Only. Oddly enough everything worked out just As we had planned from the beginning. We always said that when one of us wanted to end it we would end it. We never had bad times and we still see one although Snodgress was an overnight Star and an Oscar nominee in her first movie she is billed below Amy Irving the trembling survivor of Carrie s infernal senior prom in the fury. I Don t care about the size of the role i m just glad to be working. I get to play Kirk Douglas s girl Friend. He s faced with the task of finding his son who went underground when the Cia tried to tap his brain. Of there s plenty of scary things in this movie just like in it s not Tennessee Williams or even Eleanor Perry but it is a Job. I understand How things work in Holly Wood said Snodgress recalling a year crammed with closed doors. The Industry wants its actors to work to present themselves to the Public Over and Over so that people will be curious to see them in any movie no matter How Good or bad it is. They invested a lot of Energy in making Rne a Star but then i dropped out and that did t make the Industry smile. So when i decided to come Back they did t Trust me. Rock and Roll carries a heavy stigma out there and they did t want to fool around with any dropout on a drug induced Back to nature trip. Eventually i was up for a lot of parts i knew i could handle like the one with Dustin Hoffman in his new movie straight time but i did t get any of them. I got real close on Rocky though. I met four times with Sylvester Stallone. Then suddenly he dropped me cold Turkey. It was t until later that i Learned my agent had demanded $40,000 for an actress who had t worked a Day in Over six years. I got a new there s always Rocky ii and in the meantime Snodgress is flinging herself full Force into the fury. I m very grateful to Frank Yablans for giving me this Chance. He knew that if i did what i did before i could still do it. If you be got a Talent you Don t lose it. It s just a matter of time for people to see that i was sincere in my reasons for dropping out that it was t because i was in capable of handling Success. I just could t manage a career raise a kid and take care of Neil All at the same time. Now the Industry needs to see that i m walking straight looking Good and still wednesday september 28, 1977 the Nice thing about Rock n Roll is it does teach a lot of Young people How to enter into something artistic. It teaches you taste in music. It teaches you the commercialism plus the artistic integrity. It s just a great introduction to Art. I think that 3 real important for Young thin Lizzy today Rembrandt tomorrow he laughed at the question but said quite seriously if we can move you for the first time then Art is Gonna move you eventually in some form or other. I m not saying we can do it for everybody. But we May just be that key Factor in your life to turn you on to different artistic Lynott a Rock Star who does t want to act like one takes a personal interest if not always a per Sonal look at his mail. I d like you to thank everybody that likes and that has been helping us out in any Way and if anybody Ever wants to Contact thin Lizzy on any subject they can do so by writing to 52 Dean Street London we. I like to keep a one to one Contact rather than say write to the record company we have a Chick in the office that looks after it full time. If the letter is a Boring letter you know just Yabba Yabba Yabba then we have an official answer for it. But if it s an interesting letter and it s to one of us individually then Shell get it to us and Well read it and Well say answer it this has a new single out dancing in the Moon it s a track from their eighth album Bod reputation just released. Also just released is Lynott s second Book of verse Philip mostly lyrics from the songs he s written for the band. Universal Carrie Snodgress first flick in seven years.
