I am the world  Hanau nudges Heidelberg in red division debut by Ben Abramss a prep sports editor Heidelberg is the Hanau panthers made their debut in the red Divi Sion a successful one Here saturday but they needed a second Chance Pat play and some Sterling defensive play to get by the defending Champion Heidelberg Lions 14 12. The Victory was the second straight this season for de Driscoll s panthers and it extended their winning skein to 10 games. Heidelberg suffered its first defeat in two games this season. The Lions also were making their 1978 league debut. The pan thers have been playing in the Silver North division but were elevated to the red i Iso vision this year because of increased enrolment. Iszu Heidelberg turned a muffed punt into a touchdown before the panthers Ever handled the Ball on offence. The panthers kicked off and the Lions drove for a first Down before being fored to punt. Morris Jelks fumbled Mike Libbey s High punt and Jerome Dees pounced on it on the Hanau 25.dee Adams picked up 12 on the first play Wally Johnson added nine on two car t Ries and Don Brown scored on the next play on a quarterback option keeper play. I Adams ran for the Pat but it was negated 7 by an illegal procedure Levy. Hanau moved to the Heidelberg 39 in five plays As Jelks and Howard Easley alternated carries and then after a five Yard penalty Jelks burst off tackle Cut to the outside and outran the lion defenders for a 44-Yard score. The panthers s first at tempt for a Pat was Good on a pass from Jimmy Buckingham to Easley but it was disallowed because of an infraction. On the next try Buckingham handed off to Easley loped off to the Side and caught Easley s Down and out pass for the two Point Victory clincher. The Easley Buckingham caper worked again for what proved to be the winning touchdown right before intermission. That play covered 15 Yards and completed a 73 Yard drive which was abetted by three per Sonal foul penalties against the Lions. The kick for the Pat went astray. Heidelberg turned an Easley Fumble into its second score late in the third period. Libbey recovered the Bobble on the Heidel Berg 23 and the Lions scored in eight plays Adams going the last 32 on an end sweep. A bad snap killed the Pat attempt. The Hanau defense got fully tested in the fourth Quarter. Jelks lost the Ball on a Fumble on the Hanau 17, Karl Williams re covering. The Lions made Only four Yards in that series of Downs but Easley tried a pass on Hanau s next play from scrim Mage and it was picked off by Dees on the 40 and returned to the 26. The defense swarmed in to smother Brown attempting a pass and he also was hit with an intentional grounding Levy on the play putting the Lions out of touch Down territory.
