On tuesday president Carter announced a program to stimulate Trade by promoting exports. The United states increased its exports in August by 5.7 percent to a record $12.47 billion dollars with the biggest gains in according to new Book food and air planes. Imports dropped by 4.7 percent to $14.09 billion As americans bought fewer foreign shoes automobiles and other manufactured goods. Imported Oil continued to be a big prob Lem however. The Carter administration says nearly All of the Trade Gap can be attributed to purchases of Oil from Middle East countries. Oil imports Rose $209 million in August to $3.35 billion after declining the previous month. Despite the Overall Trade improvement in August it appeared Likely that the Defi Cit for the year will surpass the $26.5-Bil-lion record in 1977. So far this year the United states has purchased $20.98 billion More than it has sold abroad. The Trade deficit has been larger than the August figure in every month except june when it was $1.6 Bil lion. Jackie disillusioned by publishing stint by Frederick n. The committee found six patients improved but the specialists said they could not determine if laetrile was responsible.  said the results of that study would normally not be sufficient to Merit a test in the clinic Over other candidate drugs that Are available.
