Daley Ever were is fast becoming a hit on the College Campus speaking  Short Stocky italian immigrant is an old time politician a Breed being replaced by Young men and women whose campaigns speeches and style of dress Are developed by new York advertising agencies. The 82-year-old Chicago Alderman who never got past the fourth Grade can be crude and vulgar but equally candid and lovable. His Candor is the main reason he is now in demand on College campuses. This year Marzullo received a standing ovation at Harvard and Good receptions at Northwestern and Illi Nois Chicago Circle. I Don t Tell them anything said Marzullo with a Strong italian accent. I just Lay Down my background. Never manufacture any stories. Speeches questions or answers. Sometimes they Don t like my grammar very much but when i get through they like my tastes because i speak the truth. I never profess to being something i m not. That s the trouble we re having in the country today everybody s trying to run somebody else s business and All these do goobers. Johnny come lately a you give them a $10 Bill and they can t even get a dog out of a dog Pound but they Wanna run the  Marzullo Dean of the Chicago City Council first became Active in politics in 1919, nine years after his family came to the United states and settled in the melt ing pot of Chicago. After dropping out of school he worked during the Day and went to Trade school at night until he became a machinist. He became the democratic precinct Captain in his neighbourhood for fun because no one else wanted the Job. He since has been elected a state representative seven times an Alderman seven times and a Ward committee Man the Post that counts the most in Chicago demo cratic circles six times. He Only faced opposition once in 1967, and beat his opponent by a vote of about 15,000 to 1,000. In my 58 years of politics i be seen presidents governors mayors state s attorneys legislators come and go Marzullo said smiling slightly and leaning Back in his chair. They get Defeated because the people catch up to their line because they talk to people from both sides of their Mouth. Or they get so tired and disgusted with themselves that they quit. I believe in service and communication with the Public and treating other people the Way you want to be treated yourself. I m not the easiest Man in the world if people come to me with a Chip on their shoulder. De manding things on account of religious or racial Back ground or ethnic background. I m allergic to those kind of  Marzullo then leaned Forward in his chair and said loudly this . That you be got to give preference to the Blacks or to the latinos. Did they give preference to the italians or the poles when we came from Italy or Poland or the germans or the jews or anybody else nobody gave us any preference. In fact we were the underdogs All the  knows the trouble we went through. What did we do did we take the Law in our own hands defy Law and order destroy life and property or did we struggle to learn the american Way of life let them look at the record. We did t have an easy  Marzullo criticized one prominent Chicago religious Leader for accepting donations from welfare recipients and then allegedly spending it on himself. Is that the kind of leadership we want in this country not As Long As i have any heart beatings pal Marzullo leaned Back in his chair and folded his hands on his  never looked for something for nothing All my life since i came from Italy. I m not a fighter. I Don t look for trouble. But i la Tell you one thing i Don t turn away from trouble. When i came to this country i came with one thought in mind to be a Good american. I worked for everything i  has six married children and 19 grandchildren but he said none has indicated a desire to seek Polit ical office. I Don t care if they run As Long As they re democrats he said. Marzullo broke with the democratic machine and the late mayor Daley Only once during the 1972 presidential Campaign. Daley announced his support for democratic nominee George Mcgovern but Marzullo refused to support the Liberal South Dakota senator and some observers Felt Marzullo was simply expressing Daley s private feelings. Maybe i la just spit on my handkerchief and twist it around my tooth and Shell go  what s the matter she pursued. Has the cat got your Tongue where does she come up with this stuff besides that is the most Gross idea i be Ever heard. Of of Here she comes  you re not talking to aunt Lotte. Do you want aunt Lotte to cry what kind of a question is that Good heavens she s putting her face in her hands and going  talk to aunt Lotte. What Are you going to be when you grow up Good grief. I can t Wash my hands without standing on a Stool and she wants to know what my goals  would you look at that pout do you want your face to freeze that Way she s always asking that and i Haven t heard of a single Case of Frozen face since i was  do you know what i think is wrong with you Missy i think you need an  Why does t she just come right out and say it she s always spelling in front of me. Last time she misspelled overbite. Put a Yin  aunt Lotte jarred me Back to reality with would you like me to give you a Penny for your thoughts aunt Lotte i said with the present devaluation of our currency 1/100 of a Dollar is barely sufficient remuneration for my reflections.
