My daughter is � fresh Man in High school and the boys arc just discovering her. She is not allowed to go with boys in their can. 1 drive them in mine or they come to the House to visit. One particular boy is a senior in High school Over 6 feet tall very Tan Blue eyes and Blond hair. His Mother is Remar ried and he lives in a trailer with his father who works the third shift. At Var ious times when he has come to the House he seemed very troubled and needed someone to talk to. At we chatted 1 often patted his Arm or shoulder As a consoling gesture. He is a shy person but responded in a positive Way. Soon he was putting an Arm around me and hugging hello and goodbye. Last week he stopped Over when my daughter was at a slumber party. We had soft drink be was telling me about summer school How he had fixed his car described a video he had seen All kid Huff Light conversation. After an hour he got up to leave. When we reached the door he said i m going to do something that i be been wanting to do for a Long time but i Don t want you to get  with that he kissed me full on the lips i was shocked and just stood there. I made no Effort to Stop him. I have to admit i enjoyed it a great Deal but i made Light of the incident and said no More sugar tonight shoo shoo be on your  but the truth is i have been unable to think of anything but having that kid s arms around me and kissing me. I realize this sounds absolutely crazy. I Don t know what has come Over me. I have avoided him when he comes to see my daughter because i Don t know How to Deal with my feelings. I Don t blame the Young Man. I feel As if i have lost control and Don t know what to do. There is no Way i can talk about this with anyone. I d sound like a mental Case. What can 1 do i am absolutely obsessed with this kid. He is in my thoughts con stantly. I can t believe this is happening. Have you Ever heard of anything so bizarre Here i am a woman who has never cheated on my husband and i be gone bonkers Over an 18-year-old. Ask your family doctor to recommend a therapist. The nature of the problem need not be disclosed. Questions on prior service re enlistments answered i la make this As simple As possible. Situation i recently went to a Recruiter to Reen list. We had almost finished the paperwork when i mentioned i had Over four years Active duty. Well they looked closer at my dd-214 and found it to be so. Then the Recruiter took out the Regula Tion Book on prior service. He explained to me that i would have to lose one Grade Well sorry but that s too big a Price to pay for having too much experience. If it sounds backward you re right. I separated As a Corporal in the infantry in november 1984. I be been out about eight months. No that 90-Day thing is not the reason for being degraded. The Recruiter said that an e-4 with less than four years will keep his separation rank up to 24 months after separation. But those with More than four years Active duty lose one Grade. That s just great that More experience loses and less experience keeps rank. I be done my time As a private and yes private in the infantry e-3 and below Means private the Recruiter also told me 1 in infantry Wes not open to prior service. Well that was amazing. So i was going to enlist for another military occupational specially. Then two Days later i came Back after my physical and was told of a message Over the computer that said All prior service has will enlist Only in 11b and have no Choice of statiu.-. Other than what s on the message. So l accepted that since that s what i expected in the beginning. But when they told me of Grade deduction i mean what is the crime in t it enough i have no Choice of everything else i m sorry i cannot enlist under such a ridiculous regulation. Re plies first i want to thank the writer for addressing his concern to stars and stripes because i know there Are Many Young soldiers throughout Usa eur who Are pondering leaving the service and thinking til get out and come Back in another military occupational specially mos for those soldiers who presently hold what the army considers a critical skill. There is no guarantee that leaving and re entering the service will get you a differ ent mos and it May Cost you a pay Grade in the process. Let s examine the writer s situation. Apparently he went to talk to on army Recruiter in Europe and informed the Recruiter that he had Over four years prior military service and previously held the mos i in infantry at the Lime of his expiration of term of service. He also had apparently re enlisted once before and was not considered an initial term Soldier for enlistment purposes. In the writer s Casear 601-210, slates that applicants who separate from the army at the pay Grade of e-5 and below and who have Over four years of service excluding first Wermers lose one Grade if they re enter the army after 93 Days but within 30 months of separation. For soldiers who have completed their initial term of service and ets different rules apply for Cetl Sliment purposes. If they have four or less years of service or if they Are considered on their initial term of service and separate from the army Al the pay Grade of e-4, they can retain their rank if they re enter the army within 24 months of their separation. The writer also possessed a critical skill 1ib and inquired about re entering the army in a different mos. He was informed that he must return As an infantryman if be Nas going to return to the army. The reason for this is that the depart ment of the army Aqda periodically publishes a listing of Moss that apply to prior service applicants desiring to return to the army. If an applicant previously held one of the Moss on the Aqda list and makes application for re enlistment within five years of his ets and is otherwise qualified for enlistment then he must return into the mos that be previously held if he desires to return to the army. On the other hand soldiers holding Moss that Are not considered to be Crit ical could find themselves being retrained if they ets and then make subsequent application to return to the army. For example a person who previously held the mos 67v, Utility helicopter repairer and  at the pay Grade of k 4 after one term of service would Al necessarily be permitted to return to the army As a 67v if the mos was Al available to prior service at the Lime application for enlistment was made. In this Case if other Moss were available the applicant would have to choose another mos if he desired re entry to the army. The Bottom line is that the army s recruiting objective for prior service applicants is very Small when compared to its no prior service objective. In fiscal year 1985 the prior service objective was 5,500 out of the total regular army recruiting objective of 139,000. The majority of these 5,500 prior service soldiers who re turned to the army Are soldiers who re turned to their previous critical skill and the remaining Are soldiers who were re trained into a critical skill. For the Soldier seriously considering ets in order to later come Back into another mos i would advise them to talk to their re enlistment no about their options. If they Are still unsure about their options Call one of the regular army recruiters and ask them what options prior service personnel have. I am sure after having a conversation with both the re enlistment no and Lite army Recruiter the picture will be much clearer and Hie decision to slay in or not to stay in should he easier to make.
