Bears Are Here  Marion auntie mame Tanner Dies at age 94 in nyc new York up Marion Tanner whose Wacky lifestyle inspired her Nephew s novel auntie Mac has died at age 94. Tanner died wednesday at the Village nursing Home where she had lived in re cent years. She had suffered a stroke two months ago. Immortalized in the 1950s novel auntie mame Tanner worked in Macy a briefly acted on the stage ran a Bohemian artists Salon and established a Home for refugees that irked Ner snobby neighbors just like mame. Several years later however author Pat Rick Dennis denied the Madcap fictional character was modelled after his aunt who had turned her Salon into a free boarding House for bums and shopping bag ladies. Dennis a pen name used by Edward Tanner Iii said he had Given upon his aunt because she refused to take his advice to Stop taking in strangers.
