This time of year the average tourist is 60 years so schol gears his program Down from running an All night disco to setting up a Library. If you re looking for beaches night life and exciting times Sta Home till summer. Majorca has some Nice spots. The West coast is not As built Upas the rest of the Island so there Are High Cliffs Trees and wonderful views. There s a Beautiful Cathedral in Palma which sits along the coast Road. At night if it s not raining it s illuminated and the Cathedral s Beauty can be seen All along the coastline. Besides these iwo coastal wonders most everything else that s Nice about Majorca is Inland. The Spanish Are wonderful people. You la find that anywhere on the Island but Inland it seems tenfold. They want to communicate and help even if they Don t know another language and the visitor does t know theirs. There Are typical family owned Spanish restaurants along the roads Al one restaurant going into Mana Cor where they make the famous Majorca pearls the Cook who looked like the grandmother of the family let people come into her Kitchen to those lunch. She opened ovens lifted lids off of pos and did everything in her Power to help make the menu easy to understand. The lunch Spanish Chicken Home Fried potatoes Green salad and flan was delicious. The land s never the same. There Are rolling Hills a i rope in rot risk off relay is on rho br.k/1. Below pm a s Raf Irr Raf is one of Fife sift ifs on he Roar. And throughout the land is dotted with olive1 Trees sheep Larin and windmills. It s peaceful but along the Oast it s another Story. Major a might be a wonderful place e in the summertime probably Bee Ause All those1 bodies help c Over the ugly Side of the Island but the Winter is uglier. I Jui r up lies i All this ugliness a vat at Ion spot. I our it tall it Home for one or More Perks. I 01 Al residents c All it the1 tourist these to cubist ghettos sit along much of the1 Island s coastline lots of hotels c Heap souvenir shops restaurants and a amount of Neon signs billboards and other eyesores. It s not a pretty pm lure. More than 4.5 million people visited Majorca in 1984. Brits 1.7 million and germans 1.1 million made up the majority. Many return. The Island s tourist ghettos Are segregated act ording to clientele. The brits Are bused to their sections of the Island. The germans Are bused to theirs. In the British sections everybody Speaks f English. There Are lots of pubs Trutt serve British Beer. The Bonny Hill pub in Magaluk shows non Stop Benny Hill comedy tapes on television and serves exotic drinks like the Pink Panther and Harvey the hotels serve British foods and most of the restaurants Cater to British tastes. In the German sections everybody Speaks German. There Are lots of places that serve German been and food. The hotels serve German style meals. And everybody stays in their own Corner. It s possible to take Day trips to go sightseeing. But it Only lakes about a Day to see everything Worth seeing on the Island. There Are Tours to visit factories. In fact inca the leather town of Majorca is about 20 Miles North of Palma. If you decide to go you won t have to worry about not finding the factories. There Are about five or six of these so called factories that Are actually stores. In the Middle of the Winter it s hard to see what attracts 4.5 million people to Majorca every year. Maybe the Sun beaches and discos provide enough Whitewash for those stuck in the tourist ghettos regardless next year it s going to be 4.5 million less one. Stripes Magazine Decca bar 12, 1985
