February 20, 1986 the stars and stripes Ann Landers Page 11 letters dear Ann Landers Here s one you won t print but be cause you expressed so much admiration for nurses i thought id like to Tell you the latest about one of those Angels of mercy As you Call them. Recently my brother in Law was hospitalized with a broken leg. An attractive Young nurse i la Call her Rose was his Tavonte. He said she was awfully Good to him. I did t realize How Good until i went to see him one night after visiting hours. The door to his room was closed so i opened it. I was never so shocked in All my life. There was Rose in bed with my brother in Law. I left immediately without being my dilemma is this if i report this Inci Dent to the head nurse my sister will find out about u and it would break her heart. I need some advice. Sam in Palmer alas adear Alaska the nurse should be reported. Your Sis Ter nay or May not lean of the incident. I realize if she did it Sangfat create a major family blow up. But such n flagrant breach of professional ethics simply must not by reported. Rose has got to Landers you be Given some dumb answers in your Day. But the advice to the woman on a fixed income with lots of relatives was the worst. She said she could no longer afford to give Christmas and birthday gifts and you suggested she bake some thing or make Candy. Obviously you have not been inside a grocery store m 20 years. I live in a suburb where the prices Are a bit higher but it is quite Clear you Don t have the foggiest notion of what food costs do you realize that eggs Are $1.05 a dozen these Aren t even the jumbo Grade As. Butter is s2.49 a Pound. Whipping Cream is $1.45 a pint. Shelled walnuts Are $3.49 a Pound and pecans Are si.90 for 6 ounces. If she had the Money to buy these ingredients which Are Basic she could buy gifts Dumbbell. Sign me a neighbor of yours in chicag Odear neighbor. I have not spent much Lime i grocery stores of Lale but i checked with friends who know ind they Tell me it s still Cheeper to bake at Home even if one buys Grade a ingredients. Dear Ann Landers up often we Are inclined to let someone else do a Job instead of taking on the task ourselves. Remember let George do it i found this clipping in an old Book and thought it was amusing and thought provoking. Would you care to share it with our readers i Don t know the origin. Argus Reader in Sioux Falls . Dear . You found it in my column. I shared this bit of Wisdom with my readers several years ago hut i m Happy to do so again. Thanks for asking. This is a Story about four people everybody somebody anybody and no body there was an important Job to be done and everybody was asked to do it everybody was sure somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it but nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was everybody s Job. Everybody thought anybody could do it but nobody realized that everybody would t do it. It ended up that everybody blamed somebody when actually nobody asked anybody. Author unknown readers wishing Lowelle to news America Sendl Landers May in can of the stars and stripes Apo 09ji1, . Forcas.1 cafes explains purchasing pricing policies to customer yesterday i visited my Post Exchange Only to discover that i could not afford any thing there. The prices were outrageous for example a lady s Blazer $100 a Man s Pullover sweater $50 a pair of jeans. $35 and on and on. I encountered several people also expressing outrage at the prices. Who can afford these prices i have been associated with the military for the last eight years first on Active duty and now As a department of the army civilian and i know of no one who earns enough to afford prices like this. When we Are stationed in the United states we do not have to shop at the Exchange because there Are so Many other less expensive stores but because we Are overseas our choices Are very limited. In addition because of the Exchange rate shopping on the Economy is not As affordable As it once was even though there is a wider selection of merchandise. 1 did notice however that the Exchange carries name Brand merchandise. This is great except that not All of us must have designer jeans or name Brand clothing. Al though i shop for Quality i also must con Sider the Price because my family is on a budget. Stocking top of Lac Linc Merchan Dise is of with me but what about the rest of us who just cannot afford Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. Van Heusen shirts or London fog Coats i was under the Assumption that the Post Exchange was there As a service for the military. How Are the soldiers supposed to clothe and feed their families at these prices i m sure someone will say use mail order Well when you be just arrived in country and the Winter storms Are fast approaching you need boots gloves hats and other Winter clothing Bat but itis less expensive to use mail order Cata logs than shop at the Exchange even with the shipping and handling charges. Another answer might be use the deferred payment if we Don t have the Cash on hand now where will we get it to pay the monthly payments since i am complaining about the prices i offer a suggestion. Why not have a Bud get shop which would have Quality Mer Chandise but affordable prices i am aware that there Are cafes Brand items vitamins lotion hosiery toothpaste detergent Etc which Are much less expensive and i do Purchase those items because they contain the same ingredients As the higher priced name Brand items so Why not have something similar in the clothing department i would appreciate an answer from cafes concerning their purchasing poli cies so that i can understand Why Active duty and a civilians Are priced out of shopping at the Post Exchange name withheld Nuernberg Germany editor s note Brig. Since my last visit nearly seven years ago the hotel and serv ices have improved very much. One problem incurred which i feel does need some action. On my second night i attempted to pay for my dinner with my Mastercard. However i was informed that this was not possible As my meal came to less than $10. There Are no signs posted to inform arc patrons of this minimum requirement nor was there a copy of an arc directive available for review. Or. Hessenberger the Chi Emsee general Man Ager solved this problem with tact and is sincerely thanked. My suggestions to resolve this matter Are 1. If arc has a minimum charge amount that minimum should be clearly posted so As to inform All. 2. As with civilian hotels arc should look into the system of Bill consolidation so that at Check out the Patron Only has one Bill to pay for instead of the current system of paying for each service separately.
