Balcony off the bar in the new Bridge switchbacks across roman ruins. From the slopes facing the Side of the Bridge it s easy to lose ail sense of perspective until you see the ant like figures on the Dungeon Balcony with its 14-foot High doorway behind them. Also from this slope a Rock Chimney can be seen at the opposite end of Mercadillo. The Chimney rises straight up then the top leans in to connect to Ronda s Rock face. The effect looks like a caldron handle. The spaniards Call it the caldron above this Rock formation is the Alameda Del Tajo or Avenue of the deep Cut. Its wide walkways and Broad Trees Are enhanced by an open sky effect achieved by its Perch on the Rock s top. The Center of Ronda is crammed with tourists and Little junk shops. The people there speak a lot of English and can help with directions. Besides if you re into junk shops and souvenirs you won t be disappointed. Maps and a Booklet called Ronda situation history and monuments Are available in English and come highly recommended by the local shopkeepers. One note of warning. The Waters of the Guad Levin River Are rancid with garbage and pollution especially around the old and arabian Bridges. The stench definitely tears at the nostrils but the local people Point out that great strides Are being made to clean it up. If you can forget the smell for a few hours not an impossible task the View is Worth the discomfort and it is Only really bad around the lower reaches of the deep Cut itself. Ronda can be reached Only by rough Side roads. It lies at the Junction of c-339, c-34 and c-344 in southwestern Spain. It s about 60 Miles Southeast of Moron a but it s close to a four hour drive. Another 30 Miles will drop you on the beaches of the Mediterranean sea at Marbella Bay.
