Her Flaxen hair big round eyes and Broad English accent made her a miniature superstar. She won a special Oscar for her portrayal of teen agers. Then pow Little Hayley appeared nude in the English movie the family Way in 1967, followed by her Romance with producer Roy bolting 33 years her senior whom she later married. All of a sudden the lovable child Star was suddenly a not so lovable Young woman. By the time she became mrs. Bolting Hayley had dropped from sight on american movie screens. Today she is an attractive unmarried Young Matron of 39 with two sons of her own Crispin bolting 13, and Jason Ace Lawson 9. Mills daughter of actor John Mills and novelist Mary Hayley Bell rarely goes to Hollywood but would like to Settle there and re establish her career in movies and television. The first step is Parent trap ii which will be seen in the Disney Channel presentation due for broadcast in May or june. This time around of course she plays the Parent in the title. And what has she been up to in recent years i be muddled through and done my own thing and tried to Lead my life she said. I m not driven by ambition. I never thought my career was the most important element of my life. I suppose i was Overly involved in my career for my first 15 years but my attitude changed. In the past five years i did the pcs miniseries the flame Trees of Thida in Kenya but not much else apart from the theater in London s West end. Some of the plays i did were american toys in the attic and dial m for murder for example. The theater suited my family life but was t so rewarding financially. I did t earn a great Deal of Money but enough to carry on my life and to live at. Home while my sons were growing up. My income was sufficient to Send them to Good  the folks at the Disney Channel say Mills is the most Erma Bombeck career Hayley Mills played the Mother to Holly Aird in the flame Trees of Thida in 1982. She does t believe peaking in her teens was necessarily bad but Early Success did hamper her adult career. Being a child Star helped me get Good parts in the theater she said but it was also a hindrance because i had so Little experience on stage As a youngster. Film acting is a very different business. And once i d become an adult filmmakers did t want to cast me in older serious roles because i had established an image for family films As a squeaky clean kid. They doubted my ability to play anything else. All the same i think i be done about 25 films altogether a Good Many of them As an adult. The English press was generous to me at the beginning and became increasingly less so. In the theater i still feel i have to prove myself As something More than just a personality. When i get Good notices it is a real achievement. I had such a Happy experience in Parent trap ii that i would love to go Back to Hollywood and do More work there although All of the film was made on locations in Florida. It s a pity they did t decide to make this film Many years ago. I d have had to spend less time in the makeup  Iguess i m the last columnist in the world to walkabout this year s bathing suits. But you know How March just creeps up on , there s nothing new. They re going to show More leg this year. I have no idea what that Means As last year the leg went All the Way up to the armpit. New swimsuits will turn transparent when you get them wet. And bikinis Are getting smaller. The greatest observation i heard was a quote from Jule Campbell who oversees the swimsuit edition of sports illustrated. She said we need suits made for Middle age americans that Don t look dowdy. Dressing rooms should be made to look like a Beach with soft Pink  name it Jule. You want to be president of the United states serve on the supreme court be canonized you want your face on the statue of Liberty you got yours is a voice in the wilderness but believe me you have 98.6 of every woman in this country who has reached the age of cellulite behind you. The Beach fitting room is a Brilliant idea. Who can try on a bathing suit framed in fluorescent lighting staring into a fun House Mirror and with a salesperson who peeks Over the swinging doors every three minutes asking How Are we doing by seeing ourselves in a Beach situation we could try out several poses As to How we can arrange our bodies to show ourselves to the greatest advantage. For instance do we have the kind of shape that is Best displayed on the stomach on the Back with one leg Bent or covered with Sand up to the neck could we get arrested for loosening a strap to get an even Tan will the higher leg suit reveal stretch Marks in a striped suit will we look like a Cabana actually there Are a lot of things the Industry could do for the full figured bather. How about a contrasting bit of material As with a built in Duck to cover our spare tire so that people will think we re wearing an inner tube or How about a pair of dark glasses that come with every suit to distort your thighs who cares what everyone else sees when you look Beautiful to yourself it has been 10 years since i be bought a bathing suit. It s a Floral with a Belt a skirt and a scooped out neck. Nothing Falls out of the neck when i lean Over. When i lie on my Back nothing moves. The stomach stays at attention there is enough foam rubber in it to upholster the stadium at Pasadena. I have no intention of humiliating myself by grabbing two pieces of cloth that won t cover a Blister.
