European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - March 21, 1986, Darmstadt, Hesse Friday March 21, 1986 the stars and stripes Page 11 Ann Landers Kodak instant camera owners7 options discussed the recent lawsuit against the Kodak corporation by the Polaroid corporation May have been a great Victory for Polaroid however it was not All that great for myself and my family and i m sure All the other 16 million Consumers who own Kodak in Stant cameras. We purchased two Kodak trim print cameras for Christmas and were pleased with the Quality of pictures and film produced by Kodak. Kodak made an instant film that was a Semi Matt finish and could be removed from the backing producing a print Type snapshot. Polaroid does not have such a film for its los or 660 cameras. This was one of the Selling Points for me to Purchase Kodak Over Polaroid. But beyond this there Are other considerations. First we now have two Kodak cameras that Are virtually useless As film will no longer be available for them. Second Polaroid s offer to give two packs of Polaroid instant film and a $10 Coupon Book for Trade on a Kodak camera does not solve the problem of having a camera to put the film into. Yes we purchased Kodak cameras As i said because of the Quality of film however what we really want is an instant camera. Kodak has made a very generous off to Trade any Kodak instant camera for their Tele disc camera or one share of their Stock or a $50 Coupon Book but this still leaves the consumer without an instant camera. Had 1 wanted a disc camera Stock or coupons i would have bought them in the first place. European edition capt Date k. Patterson us editor in chief cmdr Jeffrey s. Zakem us Deputy editor in chief . I believe Polaroid s Public relations to 16 million Consumers could have included a Trade on a Kodak instant camera for a com parable Polaroid instant camera As it is not the Consumers fault that Polaroid and Kodak Are involved in . We con Sumers bought what we thought was a legitimate Legal Purchase of a product offered for Sale. Third for those of us in the . Military serving overseas it is not As easy to Trade Contact Polaroid or Kodak or otherwise do something with our Kodak cameras that we have purchased through cafes in Europe. I have contacted my local cafes store and they have heard nothing More than what anyone has read in the paper or heard on the television news. So my question is what Are we supposed to do from overseas about this problem master sgt. Evan j. Klein Sembach a Germany editor s note master sgt. Bruce e. Zielsdorf customer relations specialist Public affairs office he cafes Europe replies we apologize for the delay in respond ing but changing events in the last few weeks made it imperative we get clarification on the whole Kodak Issue from our worldwide Headquarters in Dallas and the Kodak military sales representative in Newyork. The following is the latest information we have concerning Kodak instant camera products based on Polaroid winning an in Junction against Kodak for Patent infringe ment. As part of the settlement Kodak s initial offer included the three settlement options you mentioned. Each of the three options is valued at approximately $50 and these transactions Are Between the customer and Kodak directly. Cafes just like any other camera retailer does t have any of the option items in our stores to Exchange for the settlement. Just recently a class action suit was brought against Kodak in Chicago charging Kodak s settlement was insufficient. The circuit court of Chicago enjoined Kodak from completing its return Gram but has not made a final ruling in the Case. So what s a camera Buff in Europe sup posed to do because of our location Kodak has printed special coupons for cafes Europe customers which have been distributed to our stores. With that Coupon you can choose the option you want the company to Honor. Due to the recent suit Kodak will continue to accept requests from customers for the announced options but will place All of them on hold until the final court decision is made. Bottom line it s simply a matter of wait and see. Of course you can return a recently purchased camera to cafes for the original Cash value under our customer satisfaction policy. However you might get a better Deal if you Complete the Cou Pon and return the camera to Kodak for one of the $50 options. Well keep you posted. Veciano Road Dumaguet City 6501 Philippines dear Ann Landers a loss of hearing is like alcoholism. It is intrusive negative and affects everyone around the person with the problem. Those who live with a hard of hearing person need help As Well As the individual with the problem. This poem was written by a member of our Buffalo group. I Hope you will find space for it in your column. Howard Stone executive director Shah a prayer for one who lives with someone who is losing hearing lord my beloved is coping with her progressive hearing loss better than i am and i feel so guilty. It seems that As it becomes More difficult for me to communicate with her the More frustrated i become and i know it should be the other Way around. I know she takes her hearing Aid off occasionally to rest her ear and then i become upset when she does t know i want to talk with her. Often i forget and turn my Back even though i know she needs to read my lips and see my facial expressions. You re not listening i scream when it is i who have forgotten about background noises or water running or an air plane Over head. I plead for forgiveness when i see the pain in her eyes when she has to repeatedly say i did t hear i know the problem is 1 can t accept her increasing dependence on me when i be depended on her for so Many years. So lord i need your help to make me More thoughtful considerate and support Ive. Help us both to explore other ways of communicating our love and concern for each other.
