European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - March 26, 1986, Darmstadt, Hesse Wednesday March 26, 1986 the stars and stripes Page 11 Ann Landers dear Ann Landers i have been a Reader of your column for several years. You frequently advise people to seek counselling from their Clergyman. I am enclosing some clippings about the people who did just that. Now you can read All about the 35 year old Man in san Jose who sought the help of a marriage Counselor who was a member of the Church Board of elders. The Counselor told other members of the Board of elders that or. Had committed Adul Tery with prostitutes. The details of the Cli ent s problems were announced to the entire congregation in spite of the Man s pleas to spare him the humiliation. The Man is suing for $5 million. The Church says disciplining its members is the business of the court. A Superior court judge disagreed. There will be a trial. You can also read about a woman in Northern California who went to her priest Episcopalian and confessed that she had done something almost As bad As she admitted that she had embezzled $28,000 from the women s Guild of the Church and was in the process of paying the Money Back. Her family had Given her a loan instead of granting her absolution the priest shared the information with members of the Church and then went tothe police. The woman was put on trial and the priest testified against her. She was found guilty and sentenced to serve seven months in Marin county jail even though the Money has been repaid in full. The woman is suing the Clergyman and several members of the Church for $5 Mil lion. Be aware miss Landers that episcopalians share with roman catholics the belief that confession is a sacrament and whatever is discussed Between a priest and a parishioner is sacrosanct and can go no further. A Collinsville okla., woman won a $395,000 jury award after her pastor denounced her from the pulpit for the sin of a Missouri couple sued their pastor after he had allegedly told several people in the Community that they abused their children. The judge took the children away from the parents. If after All this evidence you still believe it is Wise to advise readers to go to their Clergyman for counselling you have lost Areader. . San Francisco dear san fran sorry to lose you s.j., but i believe the overwhelming majority of the clergy Are responsible people and i shall continue to recommend them to my readers As an excellent source for counselling. Recently some powerful factions have tried to make it mandatory for clergy to report Law Breakers in certain categories but they Aren t getting very far. Praise the lord dear Ann Landers recently i read what split decision had to say about whether to Tell a Man that his Fly was open. I had an even More difficult decision to make. The open Fly belonged to a woman. She was a stranger and we were in the Bay area rapid transit station. I decided to summon my courage and take my chances. She was exceedingly grateful and i was awfully glad i told her. Read Youin the Contra Costa times Walnut Creek Calif dear Friend for obvious reasons it is a greater favor to Tell a male about this embarrassing Over sight but you deserve a Gold Star nevertheless. I assume you re a Fella readers wishing to write to news America Syndi Cate columnist Landers May address their letters in care of the stars and stripes Apo 09211, . She thanks Vilseck Community for brightening her life i realize that this letter is Long overdue but now that i have lived in the Bamberg area for several weeks i must write a letter of Praise and thanks to the Community of Vilseck. I arrived in Germany two Days before Christmas 1983. The weather was snowy and cold and definitely depressing. My Hus band had put up a Christmas tree with borrowed ornaments our household goods had arrived at the Tim and i was miserable. It was the worst Christmas have Ever spent but there was a Bright spot in All of this and that was the Community of Tuseck. For the next eight months we lived in a Small German Community Between Grafen Woehr and Vilseck called Frei Hung. The apartment was t the Best but our German landlords were wonderful. I Learned a lot about the customs and the culture of Ger Many through my Landlady who by the Way Speaks English French italian and Ger Man fluently. I am glad that these Fine ple became my friends and will continue to be so forever. When i finally got involved with the Vil Seck Community i Felt right at Home. I watched it grow from a Small commissary and Exchange to new renovated facilities about two to three times larger than before. I would like to say that i appreciated All the help and concern that i received at each of the facilities at Vilseck. The dispensary is certainly the biggest nor the Best but they have dedicated personnel that honestly try. I became friends with Many who worked at the commissary Exchange Beauty Salon cafeteria and Bank. I also met Many Fine workers and volunteers who gave several hours a week through army Community services girl scouts boy scouts and the Chapel. Vilseck should never forget what these Many persons have done i will also always keep dear in my heart those German friends and neighbors that helped me along the Way after we moved into downtown Vilseck. This Small town has a lot to offer and should always hold its head High and proud. And a special place in my heart will writer asks about mos retraining i decided to write this letter after Reading an article in army times about the a circular 611. After seeing All the military occupational specialities mos with shortages it would seem relatively easy to change an mos. But at re enlistment time you hear All that is offered is your current mos and infantry Field artillery or maps. They never offer administration Moss such As accounting specialist Legal clerk or postal clerk. As i see it if i were to re enlist this month i would be Able to choose from 30 to 40 different Moss since my Grade in my mos is Over strength is this True i thin knot. Name withheld Karlsruhe Germany editor s note Ronald l. Canada chief retention management Branch . Army military personnel Center replies Headquarters department of the army migration policy for soldiers desiring re training or reclassification dictates that the new military occupational specially must be listed As a shortage mos in accordance with a circular 611-84-4 at the next higher Grade. The army automated re enlistment re classification system retain is programmed to offer retraining or reclassification into a new mos that is listed As a shortage in accordance with a circular 611-84-4. Although it is possible for a Soldier to be fully qualified for retraining into 30 or 40 different Moss the retain system will Only offer up to a maximum of eight new Moss for re enlistment. If a Soldier desires retraining into a new mos that is offered on the retain system they May request a non retain re enlistment option that is processed manually by Mil percen telephonically. They May also want to consider the Bonus Extension and retraining Bear program or migration into a new mos through re classification channels. It should be further noted that the re Tain system offers retraining into a new mos that the Soldier is qualified for with emphasis placed on the needs of the army. The mos Fields depicted in your letter administration accounting specialist Legal clerk and postal clerk Are currently listed As a balanced mos in accordance with a circular 611-84-4 and therefore would be offered As a re enlistment option on the retain system. Considering the above without any knowledge of this Soldier s qualifications and Grade it would be impossible to de Termine his her re enlistment options. I strongly suggest that this Soldier visit the local retention no personnel no for proper counselling concerning the re enlistment reclassification options Avail Able. Pen pals i would like pen pals. As for the school personnel with whom i had the pleasure to work for several months i Hope that Vilseck realizes what a Fine qualified faculty and staff it has. You Are definitely the Best i be seen and that includes my own High school Back in the states. The Vilseck american High school should be proud and always fight for their beliefs against those larger schools that tend to overshadow Small ones. I am very pleased to be living in Bamberg and have met Many wonderful people Here so far but one other place will Ever take the place in my heart that Vilseck earned. I certainly miss those we left behind. To my Good Friend and Long lost sister Marsha Perkins i will never forget you or your Fine family.
