I became pregnant three years after Jay and i were married. When i quit my Job a great Many people asked was the pregnancy planned i responded yes we Are  inevitably the next question was How Long did you and Jay try actually we had been trying for Over a year but i did t think it was anyone s business. Recently i discovered i am pregnant with a second child. This one was not planned. Everyone from my sister and my in Laws to casual acquaintances has asked what were you using it floors me that people have so much nerve. Last week i heard a woman brag that she became pregnant both times on the first  she was telling this to someone who had three miscarriages in five years. She laughingly added maybe my husband should give yours lessons i thought i die. Please Ann say it one More time. Family planning is an intensely personal subject. Dodds teachers should t complain student says recently you published an article about teachers complaining about the switch to the seven period school Day at Hanau american High school. I am a senior at Torrejon american High school Spain and have been through two different seven period Day systems. In Florida one hour was added to the school Day and we had seven classes each Day. Teachers did not complain that they received no extra wages for teaching one extra hour a Day they merely faced the fact that if they wanted to teach there they would have to work the extra hour. Here we have a rotating schedule in which we Only meet for six of our seven classes each Day. Teachers did not complain or pass out propaganda Here they just realized the facts. The facts Are that Dodds teachers make More Money than most school sys tems in the states they receive a housing allowance of $5,000 to $7,000 each year they live in a foreign country and have opportunities to see things that Many Only dream about and they have the newest equipment facilities books and other mate rials to teach Here. Many would give any thing to teach Here and receive the benefits that Dodds gives it employees. The one thing that upset our daughter the most while Register ing at Ramstein High school was the fact that she could Only take six classes. She took nine last year at a school that offered seven periods but Many classes such As music sports drama and shop met Only two or three times a week thus allow ing students to take several electives when she recently sat Down to work out a program she Felt she should follow to pre pare her for College entry she found that seven periods barely allowed her to take All the academic courses she wanted let alone electives Over the next two years. Fortuna Tely there Are clubs and after school activities to cover some of her interests. While there May be students who have trouble handling six periods there Are just As Many who would like and could handle More. Those should be considered As Well. It is my understanding that students Are peace marches in w. Germany when i note these preparations for the easter peace marches organized by the so called peace movement in Germany specifically around Hahn a and read some of the brochures that Are forced in my mail Box i just must drop you a line As a local National who completed a 32-year employ ment with the . Forces. It hurts to read the fliers of the so called peace movement a minority of people who obviously think they Are the Only peace Loving individuals and that anyone who does not March with them does not want peace it is this minority that uses the United states of America As their target for con Stant attacks questioning the willingness of the american people and their peace Loving country for peace you will never read in these peace move ment fliers anything about a peace March to russian missile bases in East Germany. They do not even mention the availability of such posts this is Why i d like to take this Opportunity to thank the United states of America and its people who Over the past 40 years have preserved peace and Freedom for the Western world by strength together with their Western allies sometimes i just wonder when i note some local National employees driving to work into a military installation reflecting the German peace movement sticker on their car is this not against the Constitution of their movement to work for the . Listen to this there is a proposal to ban the Sale of cigarettes in military operated stores. Now this May not sound too horrible to the non smokers. But i m a nonsmoker and this proposal sure makes me think. The reasoning behind it or should i say the official reasoning is Well Don t laugh that smoking is detrimental to the health of military personnel. We All know smoking is an unhealthy habit not Only for members of the military. Soldiers cos and officers responsible adults Are not capable so it seems to make simple decisions about their own health. If cigarettes Are such a problem Why Stop Here let s ban the Sale of liquor wine Beer fattening foods Coffee Etc. As for the reduction from 55 to 45 min utes of class time i can say it has been my experience As a teacher that the most effective teaching is done during the first half hour. Also my children Tell me that some class time is assigned to do Homework. Maybe a student who does not wish to take seven classes can be assigned a study period to do the extra work. I have discussed this with several teach ers who have been Happy with the seven period system. They Are proud to see How Well prepared their students Are when they graduate and How Nuch easier it is for them to compete and succeed in College with a better and More varied background. We have Many excellent teachers in the Dodds system. Give the student a Chance to learn from As Many As possible. Ramstein High school for one offers such a tremendous variety of classes Why not make More time available for the Stu Dent to take advantage of such an excellent program.
