The idea of doing Broadway concerts is a change for the group which usually performs in Small clubs College concerts and political rallies. We wanted to do something special and different to Mark our 25th anniversary said travers who recently became a grandmother. But we did t want to forget our Yarrow agreed. We grew up with Folk music and when one grows up with Folk music in new York it necessitates really growing up with the weavers with Pete Seeger with Woody Guthrie with the tradition of songs that discuss the social issues of their Day travers said. For us it was quite organic to hear the words to if i had a Hammer and understand what the song was about she said. One of us becomes passionate about an Issue and brings that to the other members of the group Yarrow said. Sometimes we find out it s simultaneous. For instance the Issue that brought us Back together in 1978 was at the top of All our agendas. It was the anti nuclear Power the group became involved in the Issue of human rights violations in Al Salvador when Stookey wrote the song Al Salvador m 1983, Yarrow said. Since then they have travelled to that country and Are planning a tour of Al Salvador and Nicaragua in june. The specifics change but the enemy is the same Stookey said. Now we know we be always been involved in human rights issues. We would t have thought like that 25 years ago. We would have said we re involved in the civil rights movement or the anti War movement or the anti nuke the seemingly endless fight for human rights causes has not dampened the spirits or enthusiasm of Peter Paul and Mary. If the Central Core of these problems was simple they would have been solved already travers said. If you had a time machine and took the words to Blowin in the wind translated them into ancient greek and arrived at Aristotle s front door and said a what do you think of this song he d probably say those Are Good questions " said Stookey we re never does t Wor Forus.
