Now her attorney Tom Van Horn claims the debts Aren t legally collectible in California and wants . District judge Bruce Thompson to cancel $265,000 in gambling debts run up by Van Blitter. He told Thompson Friday that California policy applies in this Case and that the policy is gambling debts arc not legally collectible. Not so said Harrah s lawyer Leo Schuering. He argued Nevada Law which holds that gambling debts Are legally collectible should apply in this Case and asked Thompson to deny the motion for a summary judgment. Thompson allowed attorneys for both sides to submit additional Legal briefs and said he will make a ruling then. Van Blitter according to her lawyers lost several million dollars at Harrah s Over the period of a year and More than a million at Harvey a both at Stateline Lake Tahoe. Van Blitter wrote 32 checks totalling $325,000 to the casinos but they bounced. About $65,000 of the debt is owed to Harvey s and the rest to har Rah s. The Harvey s Case was not argued Friday. Van Blitter filed suit initially in Cali fornia to cancel the debts and to get a refund on the Money she lost on grounds the clubs took advantage of her incompetence in playing the game. The suit charged the casinos wrong fully and negligently failed to suggest she learn to play Blackjack by attending schools or classes. Both casinos then filed suit in Federal court in Reno to collect the $325,000 in bounced checks and the cases have been merged.
