Five time masters Champion Jack Nick Laus climbed to within four shots of the Lead and said he had a Chance to win his 20th major title on sunday. Ill assume i m still in the Hunt Nick Laus said after shooting a 69. If you Are within four or five strokes of the Leader you have a player after player made a move toward the top saturday but it was Price who made history on a Calm and muggy Day in which the Augusta National Golf club course played As easy As most players have Ever seen it play As he shot the lowest round Ever recorded in the. Masters 50 years of existence. His 9-under-Par 63 included 10 birdies. He barely missed a 62 when his 30 foot putt on the final Hole spun All the Way around the cup before coming to rest less than an Inch away. I understand the history of this tournament Price said. It s exhilarating to break a record held so the record he broke was set in 1940 by Lloyd Mangrum and was equated five times Over the years. The course was As defenceless As i be Ever seen it said Watson who shot a 68. You could make a lot of birdies out however ballester6s, the second round Leader could make Only two birdies and his 72 was surprising to himself and the other challengers. Norman s 68 included three straight Bir Dies on amen Corner the Beautiful and dangerous stretch of holes that begins with thepar-4 Lith. Joining Nicklaus at 214 were British open Champion Sandy Lyle Bob Tway and Corey Pavin who Eagle the Par-5 15th Only to take a double bogey on the 16th. Former Champion fuzzy Zoeller was among those at 215 while 1984 titleholder Bei Crenshaw advanced within two shots of the Lead Only to fade Over the final holes and finish at 216. Billy Kratzert who began the Day a shot off the Lead slumped to a 76-216. . Chen was the Day s other major casualty fading to a 75-217 after being in Contention going into the third round. The Golf course was As Nice and easy As i have Ever seen it said Kite who has challenged at the masters almost every year during the past decade. It was certainly in contrast to the first two Days when the course played As difficult As we be Ever seen it. They obviously had watered the greens because you could hold the Ball on the Green. And there was no wind. Everything was conducive to shooting Good scores. I was a Little surprised seve did not have a better no matter How easy the Golf course played however Price s round was stunning. He opened the tournament with a 79 and had appeared to be on his Way to missing the Cut. But he came Back with a 69 Friday that left him nine shots off the Lead. Price started the Day with a bogey and then birdied 10 of the next 5 holes. He made Birdie putts of 6, 12, 20 and 6 feet on the second fifth sixth and eighth holes to turn in 3-under 33. He then birdied the opening four holes on the Back nine and added Short Birdie putts on the 15th and 16th holes. He needed Only a Par at the final Hole to claim the record and almost got More. His 30-foot putt caught the right Edge of the Hole and spun All the Way around the cup before coming to rest. I was just hoping i would break 70 when i went out there said Price who in four years on the american tour has Only one Victory. But on the last Green 1 wanted that putt. I wanted to shoot a 62." Norman was As much As four shots be Hind Ballesteros late on the front Side and appeared to be the most surprised player on the course when he wound up with the Lead. It was a Surprise said Norman who lost the 1984 . Open in a playoff with Zoeller. I did t think seve would finish bogey bogey the Way the course was play ing today. But that s the Augusta National for you. You can t count your chickens be fore they m just glad i m in the Lead and Hope i play Well Bre fancy Kos Anthony of avenge Only loss Totowa .
