The matter in question is the seven period Day. Prior to the enactment of the seven period Day for school year 1985-86, Rota High school had very successfully implemented a six period Day for 25 year since its founding in 1959, the six period Day made it possible for students to receive 35 minutes of instruction in each academic subject each school Day where As the seven period Day permits Only 45 Minics. The sad Point about this whole matter is that Stu dents enrolled at Rota High school now receive 10 fewer minutes of instruction and class work per Aca Demic subject Cuch school Day. If a student is enrolled in chemistry algebra English history and a for eign language the academic loss per school Day is simple multiplication Probki. When this daily academic loss is multiplied by inc number of Days of instruction per school year the loss becomes an awesome figure. We believe very firmly that this is wrong and that the department of defense dependents schools leadership needs to rescind the requirement of a seven period Day in Favoron a six period Day for secondary schools. We the teachers of Rota High school want to let the Odds Mediterranean Region and Dodds Washington know that the seven period High school program is not in the Best interest of the students or the educational program. Other College bound student in the Stales would have had More Contact hours than our students and therefore would be bet Ter prepared Tor College. Many students find preparing for sin classes to be about All they can handle. When a seventh class i added it becomes overwhelming. Many students gel frustrated and just quit working in some classes. Students need Only 20 credit to graduate. That Means they need five credits per year. They quickly figure out that they can neglect or even play around in two classes and still graduate. This tells Many Stu dents that All classes Are not important and thai fail ure is acceptable and even expected since so much Cushion is Given.
