European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - July 1, 1988, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes Page 11 a no l letters dear Ann Landers i am a female who is absolutely convinced that a Young healthy sober woman cannot be raped Bya Man unless he has a gun a rope or a knife. I speak from expert was a senior in High school in the Early 40s and went on a Dat with the biggest Guy in the senior class. Denny a reputation was Well known so it was no Surpris Ewhen i found myself out in the the country parked near a Ceme Tery. He made his move and i fought like a Tiger. Finally exhausted he said it s not Worth this and gave did t go to school for two Days. He explained his torn shirt and Black Eye to his family by saying he had been attacked by a mugger. Again when i was 19, i went on a Date with a 35-year-old Friend of the family. I tried reasoning with him but it did t work. Finally i gave him a Good Swift kick in the family he howled in pain and i jumped out of the car and walked two Miles in the years later i found myself picnicking with an older Man. It ended with him huffing and puffing chasing me around a Lagoon. He was furious and insisted that i had led him on. I managed to outrun theold Lech and hitched a ride with a sympathetic couple. These three incidents left me shaken but i was proud of myself. They also convinced me that Many women who Are Date raped could have escaped it had they made a genuine Effort. No names or initials please. This is a Small town and the senior class boy and i Are friends to this , ind. Dear Evansville your qualifying statement no ropes guns or knives makes a world of difference but even without those things most males can overpower a woman and have their history suggests that in some strange Way you seemed to have invited trouble with men. In retrospect i m sure you would agree that your Choice of male companions was not the Best. Dear Ann Landers i ask my question in one sentence. Are tanning machines Safe when the Duchess of York came to America she headed straight for one of those places in order to look like the rest of the please reply in print. I be had lots of arguments about in . Dear Milly most dermatologists do not approve of tanning Booths. They be made it Clear that this procedure will almost certainly cause skin to wrinkle prematurely and May Over a period of time cause who Tan in Booths May do so without clothing. This Means they Are exposing areas of skin that Lack protective pigmentation built up from Long term expo sure to three dermatologists with whom i consulted this afternoon had nothing Good to say about tanning All agreed that those Bronze beauties Are going to pay dearly in 10 or 15 years for that great look they Are showing off today. Dear readers Here s my laugh for the Day. Maybe it will be yours. I heard it at a dinner party if you manage to put away just a Little bit of Money out of every paycheck at the end of the year you will be surprised at How Little you have. Los Angeles times Syndicate columnist Landers welcomes your letters. You can write to her in care of the stars and stripes Apo 09211, . Forces Auto parts buying procedure explained recently i tried to buy parts for an automobile through our base cafes parts store. I was quoted the Price but before purchasing the parts i Learned i could get them cheaper on the Economy. With this information using the vat office i was Able to Purchase these part at a considerable savings. I also inquired if the cafes Price included installation and was told no. I also purchased four new tires from cafes. During the transaction i was told i would have to accept or decline a Road Hazard warranty. I declined after hear ing it would Cost an additional $7.80 per tire. I was told that without this warranty if i should hit a Rock or anything on the Road the tires would not be replaced. Now paying about $80 per tire and not having a warranty come with it is a Little bizarre. I could Proba Bly buy better tires on the Economy for the same Price with a warranty. Unfortunately i did t Check that out first but i will next time. One Day i stopped in at the Exchange to talk to the manager about this problem Only to be referred to another person. I was Given a name and a i tried to Contact this person it was the wrong number. With being Able to and possibly getting better serv ice on the Economy How can we As patrons refer others to the base garage with this kind of treatment Isa Afes not supposed to have discounted prices for its patrons after All my car is a european Model yet they do not even carry spark plug wires for it. The Only thing i can get from the store for my car is Oil and Windshield cleaner. I have seen More american consumables on their shelves than european. I Don t know but somebody should Tell them we Are in Europe. There Are not that Many american models Over Here. Staff sgt. David a. O Nell Span Dahlem a West Germany editor s note it. Col. To of local management. The contract parts Are generally competitive with downtown prices. We see no reason Why such common items As spark plug wires would not be stocked in the store but cannot determine if you require an uncommon Type or configuration from the information you have provided. I recommend you Contact your local Exchange manager David Talley at 06561-3136, for further assistance in this area. Special order parts which Are not available through cafes contracts Are another Story. In Many cases cafes gets Little or no discount on such parts and we must Price them at a level that will at least cover the Cost of the service. In these instances customers can often do better by finding the parts themselves and should be advised of this by the Auto parts personnel. This is especially the Case where the Sale is an Over the counter transaction rather than for the repair of a car in the shop. Regarding tires cafes has a Complete program which is very competitive with outside vendors on the brands we Stock. I am sure there Are instances where negotiations with individual dealers or purchasing at sales prices will allow customers to beat our prices. In those cases the customer should certainly take advantage of the situation and do so. Safe Sells top Quality tires with the Normal manufacturer s warranty covering defects in material and workmanship plus cafes extends the warranty period to a full year unlike the Standard six months offered in Europe. Also cafes offers a separate Road Hazard warranty at an additional but very reasonable Cost. This War Ranty program was developed along the lines of similar programs available through . Tire dealers and is an option to cover Road hazards which Are not included in manufacturer s warranties. The Cost is $3.75 per tire. One last thought on this subject. Cafes is a world wide organization ready to stand behind the products it Sells. When you Transfer to a new duty station the products you bought from us Here will be backed by us wherever you Are stationed. Cafes explains disk Supply problem for about the last two months i be been searching the local cafes stores in the we Brucken and Kaiserslautern areas for five and one Quarter Inch floppy disks. I talked to the different area managers concerning this problem and i received Many different answers. The most common response was that.
