Mercer a Soldier stationed in Baum Holder West Germany won a unanimous decision from Bent in the heavy weight finals for boxers under 201 pounds. Mercer was the stronger puncher. Inthe second round he caught Bent with a four punch flurry that resulted in the ref Eree giving Bent a standing eight count. Mercer continued to apply pressure inthe final round and Bent was unable to counter effectively with his Jab. The Competition Here which started this week with 96 fighters was to con clude sunday with six More championship bouts at the Concord Pavilion in the Foothills of mount Diablo. Romallis Ellis of Ellenwood ga., be came the first Boxer to win a berth i next weekend s olympic Box offs. In sat urday s opening bout All five judges a photo Baum older s Ray Mercer. Unanimous 5-0 decision awarded Ellis the decision Over Lyndon Walker of Washington in the 132-Pound class. Ellis a left hander circled his Shorter opponent in the first round and As Walker pressed Forward Ellis repeatedly repelled his charges with stiff left leads. Walker a right hander battled Back in the Early part of round two Landing Loop ing rights and left Hooks. But Ellis re gained control by scoring consistently with jabs in out boxing the loser. The fighters traded punches in the final round with Ellis getting the better of the exchanges. Walker said Ellis is the toughest one out there in the 132 class besides  in next week s Bozoff Ellis and allot her trials winners will meet an oppo nent selected sunday by a committee of the United states Amateur boxing federation. The challenger must win two bouts on successive Days next weekend to unseat the trials Champion. That Means a Victory on either Day bythe trials Winner will guarantee him a spot on the olympic squad. Kenneth Gould of Rockford 111., Wona unanimous decision Over Ron Morgan of Cincinnati in the finals of the 147-Pound class. Gould a left handed stylist outfoxed Morgan Over the three round sin a bout not notable for heavy punch ing. Boxing is More of an Art to stick and move Gould said afterwards. Kennedy Mckinney of Killeen Texas won a unanimous decision Over Jemal Hinton of new Carrollton md., in the finals of the 119-Pound class. Hinton and Mckinney fought cautiously in the opening round with Mckinney getting the better of the limited exchanges. The Pace quickened in the second round As both fighters landed effective blows. By the final round Mckinney and Hinton were standing toe to toe and with the crowd roaring trading heavy blows. Mckinney was the stronger in the final seconds Landing telling rights that led the referee to give Hinton a standing eight count. In a decision that Drew jeers from the crowd of 3,000, Michael Carbajal of Pho enix earned a unanimous verdict Over Eric Griffin of Houston in the 106 Pound class. Carbajal a right hander used his Jab to keep the aggressive Griffin off bal Ance. But Griffin never stopped trying and landed often enough to earn the fancy of the crowd. He was not As persuasive with the judges. Anthony Hembrick a Soldier stationed at fort Bragg n.c., won a unanimous decision Over Darin Allen of col Umbus Ohio in the finals of the 165 Pound class. After a slow first round the action intensified in the second. Hembric began scoring with combination punches. But Allen fought Back and landed the heavier punches. In the final round Hembrick repeatedly nailed Allen with Short right hands As Allen tried to get inside
