It brought on some Light feelings of nostalgia that creep up on me so easily when i m reminded of the Wood and grasslands near the Mississippi River in Missouri. Several things caught my Eye. A Missouri Hunting Calendar seasons for Crow Squirrel Quail Turkey and a Story about woodpeckers being King of the Bir feeder. It was interesting to note a Story about development of a waterfowl Refuge by the corps of Engi neers on the relatively new Mark Twain Lake in Northeast Missouri. The Lake has developed into quite an outdoor attraction for fishermen and boat ing enthusiasts Over the past 10 years. I m always hearing something new about the Lake and its grow ing activities. I read about a stay in school program at the same Lake. This is also a corps of engineers summer employment program for students from Low income families trying to Complete College. Students working in the program will do things like conduct guided Tours help with education workshops and develop and maintain hiking trails. I daydreamed a few minutes while looking at some color pictures of a Peregrine Falcon harlequin ducks a Northern Oriole and some Sandhill cranes. I was about to snap out of it then a Story headline caught my Eye that read special handicapped Hunt first of its kind in i started Reading. The Story went the last weekend of Missouri s fall firearms Deer Mark Swearengen season presented a special Opportunity for Handi capped Hunters this year at Mark Twain Lake. Well How about that. That s my old scout troop i thought immediately. I remember it so Well. I reflected on those things i Learned As a boy scout pioneering swimming lifesaving cooking first Aid camping. It All came Back a pleasant memory. If there was Ever an experience As a kid that had a lasting effect on me it was those hours Days and years in the outdoors As a scout. How fortunate i was to have that Opportunity. So Reading about troop 132 sure gave me a Good feeling. I could just see those scouts out there help ing those Hunters setting up Camp constructing blinds and doing some of the cooking. I somehow Felt myself Back there with them help ing with the special program. I could even see some of the old familiar faces of boys who were in the troop with me All those years ago. It was great to see that scouting is still doing Well Back Home in Missouri and that troop 132 is still in there trying to do the Best they know How.
