What Thelma needs is a thorough grounding on birth control planned parenthood will provide this. Your daughter is in desperate need of counselling. She needs to find out Why she keeps getting preg Nant when she knows it is not in her Best interests. Dear Ann Landers a woman who signed herself night owl in Sandiego wrote to say that she had been going to sleep just before Dawn and getting up in mid afternoon for several years. Owl had planned her life around this unusual sleep pattern and considered herself Well adjusted. She then asked if she should see a psychiatrist about Chang ing her sleeping habits in order to be in step with the rest of the world. You said if it Ain t broke Don t fix i am a clinical psychologist with the Mayo clinic i Rochester minn., and i specialize in sleep disorders. If the lady is comfortable with her current arrangement there is no need to fix it but should she want to change there is a simple and effective method s How it works take off five Days from work. Delay sleep three hours per night. For example go to bed at 9 . The first Day noon on the second 3 . On the third 6p.m on the fourth and 9 . On the fifth. Each time she should sleep As Long As she is Comfort Able. This will be easy to do because her clock is slow. Once she has marched around the clock and goes to sleep in the evening she should Wake herself up at a regular time each morning including weekends. If there Are problems she should Contact a sleep Dis order Center. Peter j. Hauri or. Hauri thanks for what appears to be a simple solution to Arather complicated problem. And it s free. How Nice los Angeles times syndicated columnist Landers welcomes your letters. You can write to her in care of the stars and stripes Apo 09211, . Forces Points Are restored for leadership course i was Reading about the new promotion system. Have no idea who sits around and makes up these new systems but whoever it is does t have the Soldier i mind. This new system stated that after february or Mayno Points will be awarded to the Soldier for Ploc primary leadership development course. For the last year i have followed the cutoff scores Formy military occupational specially mos to e-6 and it has not dropped from around 998. To make up for this new system he a will lower the scores. What Dif Ference will this make As far As i can see none. The Way a lot of my friends have gotten around cutoff scores is to change their mos. When i talk to them after working their new mos they say no Idon t like the Job but i got promoted. I think about what they have said. All i can think i that when you pick an mos you should not pick an mos that you like but one in which you will get promoted. Why can t the army promote you on what you know when your cutoff score is 998 that Means there Are too Many people in the mos at that pay Grade. So that tells me if i want to stay in the army i must Pickan mos with a Low cutoff score not one i like. Why sgt. Van Atkinson Augsburg West Germany i would like to know if the department of the army is going to extend the maximum Points for military education 150 Points for 30 Points since they retaking away those Given for Ploc spec. Karen Ballard Darmstadt West Germany editor s note sgt. 1st class Michael a. Nothstein Coic promotion Section 1st per com he Usa eur replies thank you for the Opportunity to address an important Issue concerning promotion Points for cos. When he department of the army Aqda announced last year that soldiers will be required to be graduates of primary leadership development course Ploc in order to be recommended for promotion to sergeant they also indicated that the 30 promotion Points awarded for Ploc would be eliminated. A recent review of the promotion Point worksheet a form 3355 resulted in Aqda reversing that Ini tial decision. So until further notice Ploc graduates will continue to be awarded 30 promotion Points. The army establishes monthly promotion Point Cut off scores based on budgetary constraints and projected strength of a particular mos and Grade. When there Are already enough soldiers in the higher Grade for an mos no promotions can be made and the Cut off score will be set High example 998. Soldiers in Over strength mos Are encouraged to voluntarily reclassify to an mos which is under strength. By doing so they enhance their promotion Opportunity and help the army by filling critical vacancies. Voluntary reclassification is a personal decision made by the Soldier who must consider Job satisfaction and motion opportunities within a chosen mos. Reader unhappy with cutting of benefits i am writing with one question in mind. How com every time our government is looking to save Money somewhere it looks at the armed forces i get really irritated when i hear about giving the military smaller pay increases. Recently our government was considering charging shape school reunion alumni former students faculty and parents associated with shape Amer ican High school in Casteau Belgium from 1958-1980 Are holding a reunion sept. 1-4. Whitehill Augsburg West Germany pen pals for Hospital visits. This was supposed to be one of our benefits. Also it was proposed to have More one year unaccompanied Tours. I Don t think these people real ize the stress military families go through with moving and separation. I m sure if they polled the armed forces they would find that Many of the ideas that they come up with Are totally against the wishes of military servicemen and women. Recently i read in the stars and stripes about the planto freeze cola for military and civilian retirees. Now not Only have they come up with something that i m sure won t please retirees but it makes Active duty members wonder if it is Worth it to stay in until retirement. Next thing you know we will see lower retirement benefits. Don t get me wrong. I enjoy the military and like my Job. I just wish that the Powers that be would Stop and think of what their decisions will do for the future four armed forces. At the end of my present enlistment i will have over12 years in service. Right now i m not sure if i should stay for the other eight. I guess i la just have to wait and see what else our government comes up with. Sgt. Morgan e.
