The Praise for the Pacific Institute s family video series was inserted into the record on dec. 9, 1985, and was later used in promotional material for the company s sales Force. Wright s statement docs not mention his wife s employment at the Seattle wash., firm that Sells motivational tapes and programs Pri Marily to corporate clients. In the endorsement Wright Calls the marketing of the video a heartening development indeed and notes that the series is available at a nominal Price within the Range of most american  the existence of the congressional record endorse ment was first disclosed in monday s editions of the Wall Street journal. Any member of Congress is free to insert material into the congressional record. But the rules generally bar any member from receiving benefits which would occur by virtue of influence improperly exerted from his position in the  the guidelines also caution lawmakers not to become too closely affiliated with a particular Enterprise to pre vent the appearance that the Rule is being broken. Wright s ties to the Pacific Institute and his wife s employment Are not currently subjects of the ethics probe. It is not known whether the committee was previously aware of Wright s submission of the material to the record. The panel found reason to believe that her $18,000-a-Ycar Job was nothing More than a conduit for gifts from Mallick to the Wights. Mrs. Wright s employment at the two companies overlapped for several months. She was hired by Pacific Institute founder Lou Tice in september 1984, and she worked for the company for $36,000 a year through 1987. During that time tick met numerous corporate executives and lobbyists through the Wrights including at an appearance in 1985 at the annual Retreat of House democrats to the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia. A Harvard s undergrad uate student Council has reversed its decision to ask Roth Back to the Campus declaring an earlier vote a violation of the undergraduate Constitution.
