It can also be a time of my Ety loneliness and de it fou i ave had a baby recently or know someone who has just Given birth you or they May be some of the following crying for no apparent reason feelings of helplessness or hopelessness excessive concern or no concern for the baby anger anxiety or panic attacks feelings of Inadequacy and inability to Cope exaggerated highs or lows dramatic changes in your sleep and or eating patterns and depression that May Range from sadness to thoughts of suicide. If so you or they May be experiencing postpartum depression Ppd. Ppd is different from the a baby blues that most people hear about. The baby blues occur three to five Days after the birth and normally last a few Days or weeks. The baby blues occur in about 80 percent of women. If symptoms persist beyond two or three weeks of if they become severe the a a blues May have developed into postpartum depression. Ppd can occur anytime within the first year after delivering a child but it is More typical within the first six months. Although there Are several theories regarding the cause of Ppd there is no conclusive evidence. The important Issue is that there Are women who have Ppd and they can be helped. If you Are one of these women or if you know someone who May be suffering from Ppd write to depression after delivery . Box 1282, Morrisville a. 19067. Sometimes just knowing that you Are not alone and that you will get better is a tremendous Relief. A l.b., Seattle dear Seattle How right you Are. Thanks for the information. You have helped educate a great Many women today. Dear Ann Landers i am a Public school music teacher. Last week i travelled 150 Miles and spent an entire Day to perform at the wedding of a former student. The brides parents thanked me profusely and said they were thrilled at my selections but not one word was said about paying me. It was a Touchy situation because i am a Friend of the family. This is not the first time i have been burned like this. Some people assumed that inviting me to the wedding meant they did no to have to pay me. Others gave me a bottle of wine or a Beer Mug. Try that with the plumber if he happens to be a Friend or acquaintance done to get me wrong Ann i have played for free Many times and i did so gladly because the people were close friends or relatives but i have always told them that my performance was a wedding gift. Ann i know this happens to professionals All Over the country. Maybe if you print my letter some of those folks out there will learn from it and be More generous when their sons and daughters marry. Thank you. A skunked in wis. Dear skunked1 to sound unsympathetic but it appears to me that you make your own trouble. When you accept an engagement for which you wish to be paid you should a ii i. Up front exactly what your fee is so there will be no misunderstanding. One simple sentence could eliminate the sour notes in your life. Letters a conversion rate Cost increase discussed . 6, 1989 a overseas gis to pay More to convert their the Story said effective Jan. 1, 1990, the rate of percent merchants National Bank would charge customers would be 2 percent instead of the old 1.25 percent. What this Means for soldiers and civilians who use merchants is when the Deutsche Mark official rate is 1.80, customers will now get 1.77 Marks for their Dollar instead of the old 1.78. My question is this first since merchants cannot be held responsible for the rate since the military did it to them is the military also going to put the same 2 percent rate on All sales of Marks at local finance offices i cannot foresee a Day where finance May sell Marks for 1.78 and merchants has it at 1.77 for the same official rate the smart Penny Pincher will go to finance where the lines Are a lot Shorter anyway. This is another example of How the military wants to save $30 million on the backs of the gis no matter what Pentagon officials say. Id like to hear their answer. A Gerald a. Loeb Frankfurt West Germany editor s note a Mark a. Scheidler management analyst financial services division he use com comptroller office replies he use come a press release of . 5 addressed the reasons for and the effect of the change in the foreign Exchange income spread. Quot the pricing increases Are in accordance with the april 1989 Dod assessment of its overseas military Hanking program and resultant action plan to substantially reduce appropriated fund support for banking by fiscal year 1993. The assessment was conducted in response to congressional direction and resolve for Cost sharing. Quot cola and Oha payments Are adjusted based on actual Mark rates available at the Bank. When the Exchange rate changes whether due to currency Market fluctuations or income spread changes cola and Oha adjustments reflect the change. Finance offices buy local currency from the Bank at the accommodation rate and resell it at the same rate. So the rate in finance offices will always be the same As that available at the Bank. As we have said before no one likes raising fees but in an Era of constrained resources actions to align services and fees must be taken. A Reader suggests some uses for sr-71 s i would like to comment on a series of recent articles regarding the retirement of the sr-71 Blackbird. The most recent item described the Blackbird As a the fastest and highest flying plane in the if this is True the sr-71 would appear to still have some uses even if its reconnaissance role has been overtaken by satellite observation a weapons platform surely a plane capable of flying faster and higher than any other would have its uses in a tactical or even strategic setting for example to protect an extremely vital target or to carry out some aspects of ski Type operations. A transportation circumstances can be envisaged in which the need arises in the interest of National Security to transport an individual of extreme importance from Point a to Point b in the shortest possible time. Having such an aircraft available near a major Center say Washington ., might make the difference Between Success or failure in a critical situation. I am sure All this has already been Given careful consideration. However i feel the need to express these ideas to you on behalf of the Blackbird. A or. It. Col David m. Ross Wurzburg West Germany editors note a Brig. Gen. Phillip j. Ford assistant Deputy chief of staff operations strategic air come Offutt fab neb., replies thank you for your letter concerning the sr-71. You can be sure that the strategic air command is not Happy to lose the unique capabilities of the sr-71. However with the significant fiscal constraints imposed upon the department of defense by Congress a decision had to be made As to which systems to Cut. Because of its High Cost the sr-71 was selected for retirement. Other methods Are available which can fill in for the sr-71 in most of its assigned roles. Nothing will totally replace this versatile and highly effective platform but in this Case the decision had to be made As to where we got the most a bang for the again thank you for your pals i am 27 years old.
