Like most political showmen Bennett understands that perception is More important than what actually happens. He also knows the drug War is unwinnable through police methods. So Why not Cre ate the illusion of Victory and get the hell out apparently cocaine use is Down Over All. Middle class Sorters have gotten the message that it s dangerous. At that level education is doing its Job. In the world of Urban despair crack cocaine remains rampant however. Drug related crimes Are rising. Bennett s touted test Case the District of Colum Bia is a fiasco. Drug use and crime Are increasing. Police Are stretched thin and under equipped. Budget stress has ended overtime. Bennett knows the value of symbolism As counterweight to these failures. He urges throwing the Kitchen sink at drug Gies with lavish use of the death penalty. Such ideas go gangbusters with the pub Lic. They merely compound the prob Lem however choking courts flooding already overcrowded jails swamping the system. The expense is staggering and wasted. None of it has Ever worked. Miss ing Are the education and treatment tools that might actually save people fro themselves. Frustration Over the drug dilemma is mounting and May soon explode. Al ready we re nibbling away at our Basic rights. Drug testing is an unnecessary in Vasion of the human body in All but a few cases for example. Yet every time we be fallen for the know nothing line we be found ourselves later apologizing.
