The proposal would affect incentive special pay an annual Lump sum Bonus of up to $16,000 that goes to about 4,000 medical officers in 14 specialities who agree to extend their service commit ments for one year. The new plan would extend incentive special pay to As Many As 7,627 doctors in 24 specialities All specialities currently on the books and offer progressively higher annual amounts for con tracts of two three or four years. The top Bonus would total $36,000 a year. In a report to lawmakers military officials said they have had encouraging re sults from a multiyear Bonus test pro Gram the medical officer retention Bonus that has been in effect for the past two years. Congressional authority for paying that Bonus runs out sept. 30, the end of the current fiscal year.
