You suggested that she take it to the humane society to be euthanized. Please Ann done to advise your vast Reading audience to dump their pets on us for this purpose. Most humane societies Are staffed with volunteers who operate on a shoestring. We simply can to take these Charity cases. Thanks for Clearing this up soonest. A a Volunteer in new Hampshire dear Volunteer a a. Yours was one of the gentler clobbers that i received from around the country. I apologize for that Bummer. Forget i mentioned it folks. Your local humane society needs donations not More Charity cases. A trying to Buck Rodeo groups decision one sunny sunday afternoon while driving through a Small Village where we live i spotted what appeared to be an old fashioned american style Rodeo with horses bulls cowboys and cowgirls. After stopping and finding a parking spot we proceeded toward the open Gate that led to the Arena. No one seemed to notice either me or my assistant my wife proceed toward the Arena. After shooting approximately 40 frames of film an incident occurred in the a a pit area. I noticed a Gate moving up and Down in the air there was shouting in the background and 1 knew it was time to move i bolted toward the a a pit area to see what was happening. An animal had broken Loose and somehow became stuck a horns head and All a Between the poles of the Fence. At first i stood transfixed watching the animal try to free its head and horns from Between poles mounted in the Gate. It was time to take pictures not. To it. Llu _________11 1 j. 1only was the Bull not a a Happy camper a but he was determined to get this Gate off of his head. There were no signs ropes or barriers to Stop me and no people to ask permission of. After i had shot my film and was leaving the scene one of the Rodeo staff stopped me demanding that i surrender my film. The Only reason that i was being told to surrender my film it was explained was that i was on private property and had no authorization to be there. The a a gentleman also expressed his dislike of the press because of the a bad press we be had in the i tried explaining that i was doing a Story on weekend cowboys stationed in a foreign country and enjoying their free time hobbies. None of the things i explained seemed to sink in and a few moments later the film was in their hands. I was then told a a you re not Welcome Here which is just like saying a leave Quot so we left. No other photographers film to the Best of my knowledge was taken from them and believe me there were plenty of others on the scene. The fact that 1 identified myself As being on assignment at the time the film was taken seemed to have no bearing whatsoever. I am very concerned about this matter As it is clearly a violation of my constitutional rights. I think what really upsets me the most is that the people who took the film from me Are people who have sworn an oath to uphold these same constitutional rights. To Date and its been weeks i have not been Able to recover my film. I have however been notified that my confiscated film has been located. According to two members of the Rodeo association the association president is in Possession of the film and cannot be reached so it seems the film is gone and in be Learned a valuable lesson. That lesson simply put is this never Ever give up your film a James b. Ross Kaiserslautern West Germany editors note a Ramon d. I believe what i was Reading a recent stars and stripes article announced a Safe a new policy on earrings. I find it incredible that part of the same organization which has forever hassled people for things like mustaches sideburns haircuts etc., All of a sudden makes a really useful change like this. Talk about changes sweeping Europe i guess it is obvious at this Point that i done to care for the change and the reasons Are Many. Basically i ask Why in times when the question of staying in the military has to be asked on a daily basis changes like this tend to make the answer obvious. Why provide another self inflicted wound to the already moribund military professionalism just to satisfy a fad i done to have anything personal against Guys who want to Wear earrings. That a their Choice and although i done to like it i can respect it. However i done to think the military establishment should be accommodating changes of this nature to satisfy the few. My real problem with the new policy is the fact that it is clearly another change without a Good reason. It goes to show that not even the strongest institutions can avoid changes in society. The military establishment has always been about order discipline and Pride. Those Are the kinds of things which attracted me into the air Force a the unique professional requirements and the Structure which military folks different. It was taking a part of society and shaping it to be different for the purpose of discipline and professionalism. Anyone who believes that military professionalism is not suffering please Wake up before you Hurt someone. One of the primary reasons Are changes like this news ext. 237, 255, 282, 226, 326. I ask myself have our leaders now found that the system has been wrong for All these years is it possible that discipline and professionalism Are not found by adding Structure and to some extent controlling human behaviour if this is the Case then there is a lot More that needs changing. Lets get rid of the daily use of headgear. Why require haircuts pressed uniforms etc.? As a matter of fact we can get rid of the hand Salute and replace it with a respectful a Chi if you think about it Over half of afr 35-10 could be deleted and therefore provide savings in paper and manpower. This May be a bad Assumption on my part but 1 done to think that the majority of the military Force wears earrings off duty. If we Are going to change policies to fit a Small group we must be willing to change policies to satisfy the bigger groups. Just ask around and you will find a great number of policy changes that could be implemented immediately and would make a significantly larger number of people Happy. Of course with policy changes like this the number of people acting a a different off duty is Likely to increase rapidly. Personally i Hope that i never run into my colonel in the Exchange and find him wearing an earring or with weird designs shaved into his hair. The Bottom line is that i feel this change is absolutely unnecessary. In times such As these when the military Force is shrinking by the minute standards should be toughened not weakened. Anyone who has problems adhering to standards May leave the ones who can comply can stay and worry about manpower reductions.
