The self portrait is part of a commemorative exhibition of some 30 of Lennon s lithographs at the Galerie Wullkopf in Darmstadt Germany. The display runs through oct. 24. 5 the one room gallery located in the basement of a Bookstore is one of Only two galleries in Germany authorized by Lennon s widow Yoko Ono to display the lithographs according to owner Doris Wullkopf. The other is in Hamburg. Lennon s signature on and a custom made copy Ono s signature on other authenticity. They appeared nude before the press to Appeal for world peace and love. The Quot bag one Quot series also included five erotic lithographs of Ono which were promptly confiscated by Scotland Yard and led to the closure of the exhibition on its second Day. The drawings were subsequently shown without problem in new York and the originals Are now housed permanently in the City s museum of modern Art. In 1986, six years after Lennon s death Ono released another series of his prints titled Quot this is my Story both Humble and True Quot followed two years later by Quot bag one continued Quot and Quot Dakota Days Quot the latter named after the building in which Lennon and Ono lived in new York. The drawings done mostly from 1975 to 1980, when Lennon was a House husband and out of the Public Eye Are Loving and sensitive depictions of the couple s harmonious Home life with their son Sean. Again in several of the drawings the figures Are sketched in one continuous line. Lennon unquestionably had a greater Impact on contemporary life through his music than through his Art. Still his artwork documents his later years and the times in which he lived. Most important the drawings display yet another aspect of a Multi talented individual.
