K i sex ask daddy lost his Battle with cancer but left his family with a sense of Devotion to god country and the people around us. That Devotion enables us to meet new challenges As East West conflict gives Way to new uncertainties in a Region culturally very different rom our own. In All this i find myself immersed in the character of the military family yesterday and today. As a military Man daddy Learned firsthand about the truly important things in life. A Soldier and later an officer in Patton a 3rd army he landed at Normandy on a Day and marched across France taking the a Long Southern route before being permanently disabled by injuries sustained in the Battle of the bulge. He helped liberate Europe but his Battle scars and Long months of rehabilitation gave him an appreciation for family and Freedom that Only a military Man could know. His visible physical disability and gentle strength of character powerfully influenced All he knew. I am glad he was my dad and that Mother stood by him even when times were Tough. This thanksgiving As Many of our soldiers in Germany prepare to deploy in support of desert shield i am thankful for today a military families whose legacy of strength still shows itself Best in times of crisis. I am grateful for those who look beyond themselves and reach out to include others in their private celebrations for parents who care about their children even when training schedules permit Little time together for children proud to support their moms and dads and for those civilian support personnel daily pushing themselves beyond what they thought they could do to step into the Gap for military families what others will Likely experience Only from a history Book the american military members and their families have accepted As an Opportunity to shape the future for their children and for the children of the world knowing that the Price they pay is not and will not be convenient equitable or Small. As we share our annual feast with a Young wife and 3-year-old whose father has been in saudi Arabia since August and with another family separated from one Parent in the United states by the hiring freeze i will be eager to say when it is my turn that i am thankful for a military families in Germany who still have their kind of courage at thanksgiving 1990, a the Opportunity to teach their children and a another military family stateside who will share their meal with our son who is away in school. So this week As military families squeeze in their Turkey dinner on or off the usual schedule May each be More a family than Ever before. And May they have a special time together that will warm memories in the future a Sherry l.
